I haven't been blogging much lately. I seem to go through periods where I am fine with sharing my very boring life and then...well..not so much. My back/hip (mostly back now) continues to give me grief. I'm pretty much okay if I stay off my feet but you can only loaf so much before the blues set in and you just have to attempt to get a few things done. Today was one of those days. I'm usually halfway energetic through the morning so I have to use that time to work on my "chores list" before fatigue and/or achy pain sets in. I have to remember that at least I'm still upright and moving, even if it is slow and jerky.
I'm getting around the house without the cane now but I'm still too uneasy about trying to run errands without. That's okay. I see lots of canes out there. It's funny how many you see when you're actually looking for them. I did several little jobs today -- actually more than I should have but they're done and I'm happy I made some progress. I've got a teenage girl coming tomorrow afternoon to help me with some things I shouldn't be attempting on my own. Wayne came by yesterday and mowed the grass and did some weedeating.
The grass was so high in places that he decided to keep the mower blades higher than usual so parts of the yard still look kind of shaggy but he'll lower the mower for the next go around.
I'm going to have Haley (my teenager) move the pots to the deck tomorrow so I can sit down and work on them over time. I've got a few on the porch already but they're full of blooming flowers and I don't know for sure if that will be something Poppy is interested in so I'm going to have her put those pots up on the patio table that Wayne moved out of the garage for me. I also had him put my three bird baths in the middle of the lawn. That tall one in the middle needs some scrubbing from the looks of the stand compared to the top. I hope bleach will be enough. If not, I might end up painting it. Or not. It's a pretty beat up bird bath and won't even hold water unless I put a large plant holder shelf in it. Jenni got me a pretty new one for an early mother's day present and it's the nicest one out there.
The daffodils and tulips are looking good -- at least for now. Once they've done their duty, they seem to die quickly.
I'm not sure if Haley will want to do weeding for me so I may have to find a gardener to clean up the front area that is getting overgrown with weeds. I wasn't sure they were weeds as they're halfway pretty but after posting on Facebook, I was told I'd best get rid of them.
The area off the back deck steps was really in need of a weed eater and while they got chopped down, I think I'm going to need an actual person to attend to that area as it looks pretty pathetic.
This is the type of thing that drives me crazy. I LOVE weeding (believe it or not) and to be able to transform an ugly area like that would delight me no end. But....it ain't gonna happen with my back sticking her nose into the mess! The front area (thank God it's small) is in need of weeding too. Nothing like spring showers to set the whole place off FAST!
I'm also in need of carpenter as one side of the fence (ten years old) is going to topple with the next bad wind storm.
You can still see nice things out the window, though. The hummingbirds continue to visit the feeder and I'm happy about that. I hung a thistleseed bag out a few days ago although I haven't actually seen any gold finches yet. I'm hopeful.
Yesterday I managed to get my latest crazy quilt laid out with batting and backing. Not an easy chore with my back but now I can sit down the next two days and work at tying it together. At night I've been working on cross stitch and was pretty happy with my latest little project so I found a frame out in the garage that I brought in to use.
I've been binge watching The Sopranos and am on the final season now. Love that show! I recently signed up for Acorn channel out of England too. It's only $5.99 a month and they have quite a few shows worth watching.
My son-in-law, Wayne, is such a sweetie pie! He's been especially lucky at the slots at various casinos this year. His latest victory was last weekend when he treated his mother (she lives in P.A.) to a concert at The Point Casino in Kingston. (Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute) She has been without a refrigerator for some time and using an old ice chest until they can afford a new fridge. Wayne had been looking for a used one for them but was unsuccessful. Anyhow, he told his mom if he won any money that weekend, he would get her that fridge. He had a ticket for $35 of free play and after his mom and her husband went up to their room, Wayne decided to play his $35 until it ran out. It kept going up and down and finally (at 3:30 a.m.) he opted to play max and hit the button. $6.80 a hit. He figured he would lose it quickly but I guess God decided Darla needed her fridge. He went back to the room with over $700 in hand! They were over the moon excited. Stopped at Home Depot in Sequim and bought a brand new refrigerator. That Wayne!
Poppy (Mary & Andy's dog) is coming for the weekend while they go to Victoria. I'm going to dog proof my house on Friday morning as she apparently likes to chew stuff. Ha! Here she is in her Easter outfit.
And here's some photos that Catie took on Easter.
Well, time to make up that salmon loaf I've been thinking about fixing for dinner.
