Morning Errands for Monday

Lucky me.  I woke up for I think the 4th morning in a row with foot and toe cramps. Lovely way to start the day.  And I've been drinking water (I feel enough) and taking potassium and magnesium so what's the deal here?  Thank God for my walker that sits nearby and allows me to crawl around the apartment to work the cramp out -- and not without a lot of moaning.  Oh, poor me!  I went to Safeway this morning and bought a bottle of tonic water (with quinine) as I think that helps some. We'll see.  Next thing I'm going to try is CBD oil.  I'd get it now but I hate spending the money.  I went into Don's Pharmacy today to return something for my sister and they had a sign at the counter advertising CBD oils. Interesting.

My sister returned from Swedish Hospital on Saturday. Her son used my car to go pick her up. Took four hours to get home what with ferries, traffic and the Hoods Canal Bridge open.   She was in bad shape yesterday and I had serious doubts she could manage without a caregiver. Going to Kai Tai for a while was completely off the table for her.  She's doing better today. It's a shame her apartment isn't handicap access as she has a hell of a time tryng to get in and out of the bathroom with the hoveraround she's now using exclusively.  The chair won't fit through the bathroom door but she's got a grab pole that enables her to move a little easier in and out of bed.  She was in the hospital up here for a while but they transferred her over.

I went down to her place this morning and she was on the phone with a case worker going over her drug list and upcoming appointments with more doctors.  She did manage to get herself in the shower and that was a huge relief for her.  Going to be a long and slow road to recovery, though.  She was miserable at the hospital and fighting the entire time that she needed to go home. Probably not the greatest patient they've encountered. Ha!

Ralph Nite texted me yesterday that he made too much applesauce (he has a tree in his backyard) and asked if I watned some. I knew Janie needed to eat soft foods so I said yes, I'd come get it. He said: Bring me a rock! haha  I gave him one with an apple with a worm coming out the top.

I've got several projects going on at once right now. I moved my sewing machine to the living room table but then decided it was just way too messy out here so I put it back in the bedroom on my sewing table set up in there.  I've got a neat bird jigsaw puzzle half finished on the kitchen counter and half a dozen rocks almost finished to add to my collection for hiding around town.

One of these days I'm going to put all these "busy" things away and settle in with genealogy research again.  I heard from a cousin in Virginia (who I've never met) who saw some of my research on a niece of my grandpa Gene's that I wrote about. She was one of the more interesting folks in my family tree and this relative is wanting to write a book on her.

I'm going to get back into fasting this week. Just one day a week and I'll end up picking the day I'm not all that fond of what's on the dinner menu. This week it's gonna be Wednesday.  Hopefully, I can get back to healthier eating with this regime as I did halfway decent on it when I did it for a while in Port Angeles. Fasting for one day isn't really all that hard; you just have to do it.  And once you're through the day, you're more apt to eat sensibly the rest of the week. At least that's how it's supposed to work.

I ordered HBO a few days ago. Will probably keep it for a least a month; maybe two.  I've watched some good movies this week and that makes me happy. Now I'm watching this series with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson called True Detective. Actually, I'm not all that fond of either actor as I think they're too full of themselves but this series is pretty good.

One of the websites I like to visit is called Quora.  Very interesting questions asked there. One of them was this one:

Did Jay Silverheels ever express any regrets about playing Tonto?

I knew Jay, tutored his daughter and went to his Indian Actors Workshop in Silverlake, CA.TV actor Robert Lansing (Twelve O’Clock High, The Equalizer) taught acting and acting students from films like Little Big Man attended. Jay was a very humble man. My impression was he tried to make Tonto a real, believable character in spite of being stuck with the stilted dialogue imposed on him. He worked hard to make sure his character was seen as The Lone Ranger’s best friend as well as an equal.

Jay was a full-blooded Mohawk from Canada and expert Lacrosse player. In fact his acting name Silverheels came from his reputation on the Lacrosse field as being one of the fastest players.Along with Tonto, he played Geronimo in “Broken Arrow” and had an important part in the Bogart film “Key Largo”.

The only issue I ever heard about regarding his iconic TV role was when (during the late 1960′s-70′s) native Americans were fighting for their rights (the take over of Alcatraz and the confrontation at Wounded Knee), Jay was called “Uncle Tomahawk” by some (a reference to the “Uncle Tom” criticism by some blacks against others). That hurt him and I thought was unjustified.Jay and Lone Ranger Clayton Moore remained friends throughout their lives. I think that says more than anything else as to how he felt about his experience.

And that's about all I have for now. I've been putting a lot of my pictures on Facebook.
