Boy!
Am I going to think twice before I decide to mail off a package. I wrapped up these underpants to send my cousin in KY. Long story and I won't bother you with it. I used an old brown paper sack to wrap the box in and UPS wanted over $14. I don't think the underpants even cost that much. Decided to buy one of their large bubble envelopes and take the package home to rewrap. I figured the cardboard box was what was causing it to be so high. The envelope cost me $4.50 and then I found it for under $3 at Don's Pharmacy. But oh well, lesson learned.
I repacked the pants and trotted off to UPS again. The ride was icky 'cause it hasn't stopped raining all day long. I go inside and he wants $23 to mail the stupid envelope. Say What? After measuring the envelope and typing up the address it's going to, he tells me we could try to fold the envelope to make it smaller. Good Grief. You mean it goes by size now? So he tries to get all the air out of the sealed envelope, adds more tape to hold it together as a folded package and then wants $14.50. What? That's what the box costs this morning before I repackaged the damn thing! Just not my day for mailing. I'd spent over $29 last week mailing off a few "light" Christmas gifts. Gonna have to rethink my gift giving next year. Like not bother doing any! At least not the ones I have to mail.
I drove home slowly in the traffic along the highway heading out of town. Stopped at the traffic light at Safeway and remembered when this road was a small two lane road next to the swamp and the main interesection that has a lot of traffic heading towards the water and all the businesses there used to be swamp land and dusty paths to the railroad beach. I wish I had more pictures of how my hometown streets looked when I was getting around on them with a bike.
Speaking of bikes, I had another bike dream last night. Ruth Kvinsland was with me and Ruthie doesn't often show up in my dream antics. For some reason, my dreamscapes seem to take place in B&R Trailer court in Hadlock where I lived from 1991 to about 2002. The house there often turns into my childhood home on 22nd & Haines where I lived with both parents. So interesting some mornings to wake up and remember where I was during the night.
I haven't accomplished a lot today but am getting started on the batting squares that Joanne Gilles gave me months go. I'm zigzag sewing them together to make larger batting pieces for the quilt tops I have onhand. Also dumped out the puzzle pieces on the cardtable so I can start playing with that tomorrow.
Pandora Music has been on my tv all day 'cause sometimes you just don't want to hear what's going on in the world. And that's it for my gray afternoon.
