I remember when my dad was in his 70s and beyond that I noticed he had to take naps a lot. I didn't think that much about it at the time but I certainly think about it now. I seem to be tired an awful lot. I went to bed around 10ish last night; maybe a little before. And I had slept 12 hours the night before. I knew I was under the weather dealing with allergies and I knew the sinus tablets I had taken were knocking me for a loop as I was really sleepy. Sneeze, sneeze, sneeze. Sick of it. And when I'm not sneezing, heaven help me if I swallow wrong and get phlegm in my throat and cough my fool head off. That can tire you out too. Anyhow, this morning I got up at 6 to move to my recliner. I do that frequently. The mattress topper on my bed is super soft and while it helps me sleep better (I think) it does make me want to get up and move to something firmer more often than not. My recliner is getting old but so far, I can still make it go back to a reclining position like a bed. I'm going to hate it if I have to invest in a better chair someday.
I stayed in bed (or in chair) until 9 a.m. I never do that. But apparently, my body needed it. I got up and started my day. Felt halfway decent although not TOP OF THE WORLD DECENT. I kind of doubt I'll ever get that back again. I washed up the dishes I didn't do the night before, and cooked myself a nice hot breakfast. I don't usually do that as toast and coffee is enough most of the time. I did the crossword and wordle online, read the stupid PA paper and surfed Facebook and my hotmail. There's seldom any emails anymore and I'm going to have to start investigating some other interesting websites to visit. I subscribed to the Leader for six months and then decided again that it wasn't worth the money. Too bad 'cause I always loved reading the Leader. Always. Not now, though. And that PA paper pretty much stinks. I read Dear Abby and Pickles, look over the short obits that only tell you a persons name. Sunday obits, at least, give you something additional to study. I love obits. I keep telling myself I need to write mine to save my daughter the trouble but I don't want to brag about myself and I know she would go overboard on what a great person I was. Which is how it should be.
I spent over an hour at the sewing machine strip sewing these tiny pieces of material together for a future quilt. I'll take the whole bag of them to Vancouver next week with a pair of scissors so I can snip them all apart and trim up for the next go round at the machine when I get back home. I made up a large hot pad and backed it with this cute kitten material I had. Gave it to Maria down the hall who keeps to herself and her two cats.
Later on I fixed a tuna sandwich and had a couple of brownies. I made a pan of them last night and gave out to four neighbors. I've got a potato baking in the oven now and will have a salad with it for dinner. Another neighbor often gives us meals as she loves to cook and hates leftovers. Bless her. Yesterday she gave us fish sandwiches and the day before, a huge plate of salad. When I come back from Vancouver, I'm signing up for this food program where you can get free produce at the farmers market. Another program delivers canned goods to you. I need to use these perks as my Edward Jones account to a big ole hit this past month. Went down thousands.
One thing I'm struggling with now is how to make my foot pedal of my sewing machine stay put. I've tried using that rubbery kitchen shelf stuff under it but it doesn't work. I've put a box of rocks behind it and that didn't work. I tried to put rocks on either side....nope. No help. I've used tape to hold the wire to the rug but it wouldn't stay put but there has to be a solution I haven't thought of. I may go on Google to see if I can find some tip. Let me know if you have an idea.
Tomorrow Mary Gaboury is coming over to use my laptop and Monday I'm driving my sister to Sequim to see her dentist. It means a two-hour wait while he fixes her denture so I'm going to drive to Port Angeles during that time so we can visit Jenni. She'll take her dog Lucy and hopefully, Sammy and her can play. I may stop at the Dollar Tree too as I need a few items.
One day next week I plan on driving my cousin, Bobby McGuinness (and his wife) around town to see the sights. He's coming from Louisville for Rhody and hasn't been in town for several years. He's gonna be surprised at how much it has changed. A friend from Issaquah is coming to visit me on Thursday and then on Saturday, Jen and I will take off for Vancouver. We'll be there for anywhere from two to six weeks while Mary recovers from brain surgery. I'll probably miss alumni this year so I hope people take pictures and share them.
We've been told to expect a couple hours of loud noise tomorrow when the maintenance guy takes out a shower and installs a tub. Maybe Mary and I can go get a burger or something. Jen took me to lunch on Tuesday at a bar downtown called The Anchor. Terrific hamburger and fries. Finished watching Ozark so now I'm hunting around for something else to get hooked on.
I wish I knew what kind of tree is blooming outside my window. I may go on Google photos to see if I can find it. Right now the bees seem to like it. In the fall when the leaves are gone, the squirrels come in to feast on it. The stems have kind of a red tinge to them.graduating class of 1939
