My intention today was to sit down at the sewing machine and maybe make a little 4" square mini quilt square using applique. I have this big ole book with 501 quilt squares in it and they're all minis. Which I thought was cool when I bought it. Now...well, not so much. Making teeny tiny squares is a tad more than my expertise is up to. I'm not giving up just yet, though; I might see if I can find a place to take my book and get the squares that I want to work on enlarged. I have a scanner and I'm going to play around with it later and see if it will enlarge but I don't think it will. I don't think my printer will either. At any rate, I made one square of Sun Bonnet Sue but there was no way in hell I was going to be able to finish it by turning under the edges with a needle and sewing my hand. Her little hand was smaller than my smallest fingernail. I decided to use fusible paper and the square I ended up with was glued on instead of sewn. I did zigzag around it but all in all, it looks pretty damn pathetic.
This is why I didn't get any blues at the fair for my sewing. Ha Ha I knew my entries were crummy but I put them in anyhow. Reds and whites will do me fine. Speaking of the fair, I got a phone call today that I won two of the prizes in the big raffle they had going on. I had just texted Barb Shaw yesterday asking her if she got a call because I hadn't and we both figured we were out of luck. What a surprise to hear I'd won two! There were 65 prizes. I got this little keyboard (not sure if I can play on it but I'm going to give it a try and I got this big old gray teddy bear which I was really hoping I'd snag. I'm leaving in a half hour to go pick the prizes up.
Meanwhile, when my little square didn't give me any satisfaction, I found this other applique pattern with flowers that looked easier. One thing led to another and I ended up cleaning out my sewing basket, my sewing drawer, various shelves and bins and even got as far as kitchen cupboards. It's always intriguing to me how I find better places to keep things once I get on a roll. I managed to clear out several little nooks here and there.
Just got a text saying there was unusual payment activity on my Amazon account and I needed to click on the link. Sigh...Damn scammers just piss me off!
I'm fixing homemade pizza tonight. I found this pizza mix (from Jiffy) last time I was in Safeway buying their little raspberry muffin boxes as I really like those. Never saw pizza box before so I'm trying out. Toppings will be green pepper, tomatoes, chicken, and cheese.
Got kind of warm in here this afternoon. I have all the fans going but all the moving I've been doing probably contributed to my being uncomfortable. I'm going to pick up sewing again tomorrow. I found a whole cigar box full of little 2" squares that need to be sewn together. Just because.
I start physical therapy for my back next month on my birthday. Out in Hadlock. They had a cancellation tomorrow but it was for 9 a.m.. and I have to be here at 10 for my weekly free food dely. My monthly box came this morning and it's always such a delight. I am sharing with neighbors that might be able to use some of the canned goods. Actually, I had quite a bit to share as I hadn't used up all that I got in July. Milk, cheese, rice, peanut butter, and dry cereal.
Started reading a biography on Robert Mitchum and so far, it's pretty darn good. Still having a heck of a time staying awake everytime I sit down to read, though. Gets discouraging when you really want to get into a book like you used to do in your younger days but mother nature takes over and says "Time for a nap ole lady!" I just ordered another book by a local author. Linda Myers who writes for the Sequim paper and has other novels out too. I love her newspaper column.
Well, too hot in here. Gonna take a break and will finish this later.
Drove out to the fairgrounds to get my two prizes. Love my bear!
Sure got hot. I had to turn on the a/c in the car. My keyboard is pretty much a kids' toy but it does play and if my grandson doesn't want it, it's up for grabs for whoever might like it for their child or grandchild. I had to put four AA batteries in but apparently if you buy the right 6 volt DC jack, you can play it hooked into the wall. At least I think that's what the directions mean. I'll put it on my FB page once my daughter tells me whether or not Jake already has such a toy. (he probably does)
