Spent a good part of my morning working in the sewing room. Tomorrow I'll try to get the batting and backing attached to my red, white, and blue quilt. I used a piece of blue sheeting and some white cotton material for the backing. Probably not as professional looking had I purchased more material but it does get expensive and sometimes I think it's smarter to just use whatever you can find on hand.
I added red, white, and blue strips to the side to make it wider and I think it will look pretty good once I'm done. I also scrounged around in my stash and found various materials with animals and fish that I intend to cut around and use in applique quilts. Haven't quite decided yet how I'm going to use the fish but I'll figure out something. It's a heavy cotton material that I picked up a Goodwill. Actually, it's a shower curtain but I'm pretty sure it will work in a quilt. At least I hope so.
The dogs, horses, and rabbits will be much easier to cut as they're basically just squares. I suppose I could use the whole panel as one quilt piece but I want to play around with them and see what I can make. I also opened up my jelly roll to see what kind of colors I was getting with it. I like them.
Rain is coming down steadily now and I think I'll take a little nap. Noticed the houses across the street are getting the landscape work done now. So nice to see all that scotch broom dug up. Will be interesting to see the final look.
Sure am curious to see if the builder decides to continue building all the way down the block.
Big news for today is that Jenni finally gave her notice. She went in this morning and told them at 11 that she was done. Just too hard on her to keep going. I'm glad as it's been a real strain on her. Now she'll have to do the steps necessary to file for social security disability. Hopefully, it won't take too long. Big decision for her and I know she's very depressed about it because she loved working at the bank and loved her co-workers too.
