Rocks, Applique, Grass, Golf, A Barn

Got off to kind of a slow start this morning. More or less passed on getting up to watch my favorite Sunday morning show (CBS Sunday Morning) 'cause I was just plain tired. I got enough sleep (I think) but for whatever reason I don't wake up rested and ready to go anymore.  Mornings used to be my best time of the day for energy spurts.   I'm blaming it on birthdays. Had too many of them.  Not that I want them to quit any time soon, however. I'll deal with the aches and pains and slow starts. Just won't like them much!

My neighbor, Mark, mowed my front lawn again yesterday when he did his. Bless his heart!  I took him over some brownies and he told me he intends to get my grass looking as good as his.  I think he intends to fertilize it.  I told him it wasn't necessary but I think he likes to work on lawns. Fine with me.  I've always wished I had the strength to put into yard work but my back has pretty much made me curtail a lot of things I'd like to do.
A neighbor down the street was over visiting in their garage when I took the brownies over so I was able to catch up on street news a little bit. This lady walks daily with two dogs and seems to know everything that is going on up and down the street.  She said they're going to start clearing the whole block across the street next month and houses will be built.  A couple will have four bedrooms so I guess I'll have to get prepared for the constant racket of hammers hammering and trucks and machinery working.  I certainly won't be sorry to see that scotch bloom disappear!  It's just started blooming again, although you can't see it in this particular shot.
Am sitting here having a second cup of coffee and intend to head to the sewing room when I finish.
I was playing around with a different way to applique yesterday but discovered it was way too hard a technique -- especially with small pieces.  You sew this lightweight lining on the material and turn it inside out. Then you press it and sew it to the larger piece of material.  I was going to hand sew the pieces I had turned but decided that was way more work than I wanted to do so I machine sewed them on.  Looks like hell but oh well...  I'm going to decorate the piece more (have a couple of small cat buttons to sew on and I'll had a border before putting on the backing. Might make a smily face on the sun too.  I think I'll go back to iron-on fusing applique. It's way easier.
My other craft I've been trying to mess around with is making pictures with rocks and sticks. Went to the beach yesterday to try and find more supplies but as usual, dealing with my back was an issue. I did manage to toss a few in my bag before giving up.  I need a lot more, though.
My first picture turned out okay once I discovered what glue worked better.  I may try out my glue gun next as getting glue out of little tubes can be a real pain in the neck.
One of the rocks I found had an indentation in it so I glued on a "home boy" that I had got from a gum machine a few years ago.  I don't know if that heavy rock will stay stuck so I might have to make it an "on-the-table" display.
Guess I'll wrap this up now. Golf is starting in a half hour and I think I'll have the tv on in the sewing room while I work.  Missed the first episode of 'Call the Midwife' last week so I'll be watching that later this evening.  I was going to watch a friend's dog tomorrow and the next day but she decided not to go to the casino with friends because of a migraine. Man, am I ever glad I'm not plagued with those!

Got three doctor appts this week and Mary G. comes on Thursday. Am hoping I can get her to ride into Port Townsend on Friday or Saturday so I can hit North Beach. And that's about it for today. Oh... and here's a couple pictures I saw on Facebook this morning. Really brought back memories. Pat McConaghy lived there as a kid and him and Teresa Pearce lived there after they were married.
