I’ve been messing
around here in this office of mine for most of the day. That happens a lot once
I sit down at the computer. Always one more thing to look up or work on. I’ve had problems with the USB ports not working and was told they often don’t
hold up that well on laptops. I have one
large exterior hard drive box I plug in and unplug a lot and two other little
thumb drives that I do the same with. I’m sure that’s contributing to the
difficulties of keeping a good contact.
One of the
thumb drives is devoted to my genealogy files and the other is just a
miscellaneous collection of school memories, notes, and all kinds of stuff I
think I need now and then. Every time the wires move even a smidgeon, the
laptop is dinging at me to format the disks.
Whatever the hell that means!
Decided I was tired of messing with them so I devised a new set-up.
I put my laptop on
a little tv tray to the left of me and near my printer. The printer won’t work
unless it communicates with the laptop. My older computer is too old for the
new computer to obey. I hooked up the
old computer with its larger monitor and plugged in both thumb drives and the
large exterior hard drive so they’re at my fingertips whenever I want them.
There are both
advantages to this system and disadvantages.
I like being able to work with the larger monitor but if I want to print
anything I type or send a picture or post a picture on facebook, I have to
transfer the data to a thumb drive and then plug it into the laptop and work
from there. I also have a wireless mouse
for the laptop but I need to remember to turn it off if I’m not using it so the
battery doesn’t run down. One of these
days I’m just going to have to take the time to learn how to use the built-in
mouse on the laptop. I know people like
it once they adjust.
I’m typing this
blog post now on my old computer in its word program and I will send it to one
of the USB drives to plug in on
the laptop so I can post it. My old computer isn’t connected to the internet;
just the laptop. I know. This is boring. It’s boring to me too.
I was going to
work at the kitchen table today and make a rock picture or a button picture. I
spent a lot of time yesterday sorting my button collection by color. Not sure
what I’m going to make yet but I’m looking on Pinterest to get some ideas. Maybe a tree.
Tomorrow around 6
I plan on driving across town to the Mormon Church to see if I can get some
instruction on using their website. I go there all the time but I don’t think
I’m using it right and I think there is more information to be had if I
searched correctly. The woman I want to
talk to is supposed to be there tomorrow evening. She apparently teaches a class on the subject
on Wednesdays but I don’t think I really need a class. Just help with this one
area.
I made a big pot
of cabbage soup yesterday and intend to eat on that for the next few nights.
Just threw in whatever I could find in the pantry and frige and freezer. It was
tasty. I added some chicken too.
The wind sure has
been blowing today. Scotch broom across the street hasn’t quit moving once, I
don’t think. I should go out and give
the plants a little water but I’ll wait until tomorrow. Could be it might even
rain tonight and save me the trouble.
I was surfing
around on eBay and saw a 1960 Hit Parader Magazine up for bid. Only 95 cents so
I bid on it. Heard this morning that I
won so that’ll give me something to look over in a week or so. I also sent for 4 True Story Magazines from
1953. Gonna use them for Christmas gifts
for girl friends who might remember them.
Not too much on my
agenda this week although I think I’ll be dog sitting Thursday and thru the
weekend. Catie and Brandon are suppose
to be coming over on Saturday too.
Here’s some
pictures of cousins that I posted on facebook recently. And the last of my
“nice people” photos. And now to
transfer this to my blog and see how much trouble it is…or isn’t.
