May Day &Movies I liked

Nothing much planned for today. I'm not even bothering to get dressed -- and that's something I seldom do.  Right upper arm continues to keep me on edge and in a crabby mood!  Last night I finally decided to try a marijuana brownie that Jenni gave me months ago to see if it would help.  It does her.
I ate one small piece (1" square) and it was tasty.  Like pumpkin bread.  She told me to take it a couple of hours before bed as it would help me sleep so I popped it in my mouth at 8 pm as I prepared to watch a movie on pay-for-view.

I went to bed at 11 and didn't really feel much one way or the other.  I laid down on my bed but didn't cover up as I was a little warm.  About an hour later, I woke up and realized I hadn't moved or covered up.  Hmmmm, I thought.  Maybe that brownie did have some zap in it.  I went back to sleep and woke up at 4 to pee. I couldn't believe it when I found myself staggering to the bathroom.  My mouth was so dry I could barely open it and opening my mouth at all seemed harder than usual.  My vision seemed a little blurry and I thought: holy cow!  I must be high.  Can't say that I found it that relaxing. If anything, it made me more anxious.  I knew I wasn't at a place I could drive (not that I wanted to go anywhere) but I didn't like that I was as groggy as I was.  Am going to give the rest of the brownies back.

I'm  not saying I won't try pot again someday (especially if it helps the pain) but I think I'll look into other options like creams or even smoking. Although that doesn't especially interest me that much. Ironically, the CBS Sunday Morning Show that I watched today had an episode on seniors using pot more all the time. They suggested that we shouldn't try the product in a baked item but try other forms.  Now they tell me!  I'm surprised (yet not!) that I found the whole episode less than relaxing. I obviously am getting more uptight in my old age.  Sometimes I think I should have a glass of wine every night or a glass of beer. Something to soften the edges.  I certainly never used to have a problem with softening the edges. I was kind of good at it, in fact.  Too many years of not drinking at all has got me out of practice.  Not that I intend to start up. Who can afford booze these days?!  And pills just don't appeal at all.  I guess that's a good thing. Although having sugar as my drug of choice isn't that smart either.  Oh great!  Now all I can think of is I wish I had a doughnut to go with my coffee. ha ha

I didn't get a lot accomplished yesterday but I did work on three sticks and stones pictures. Waiting until this morning to frame them as I wanted to see if the glue would stick. It has so far. Want to get out to North Beach next time I'm in PT so I can collect more rocks and driftwood.
Mary,Andy, and Jake went to a birthday party in Quilcene yesterday for Joey D'Amico. Here's two pictures I saw on FB

Kevin Meehan, Joey D'Amico, Todd Atkins  (with Mary in the background)

Here's another Facebook picture that Kelly Brebberman took of Clarence Lammers checking his mailbox.  I thought it was a great shot.
And here's a  photo I just took of Maggie sitting at my feet. She follows me from room to room and suspect she's going to be very happy with Kathy returns tomorrow to pick her up.
Next, I thought I would yak about some of the movies I've seen recently.  Mostly on Amazon or Netflix but a couple were pay-for-view.  I don't that that too often as it cost anywhere from $3 to $6 but sometimes you just want to see a movie and it's still cheaper than going to the theater.  Which isn't all that comfortable for me anymore as I don't like sitting that long and the sound is too loud.

The two I paid to see were The Revenant and The Lady in the Van.  Both were very good.  Interesting to see Leonardo DeCaprio in his latest flick compared to 'What's eating Gilbert Grape' from 1993.

Really great acting.  And Maggie Smith in The Lady in the Van was also top notch.

I watched Robert Redford and Nick Nolte in 'A walk in the wood' yesterday but found it kind of flat.
Robert Redford's acting skills haven't impressed me much in the last two or three movies I've seen him in.  Nick's acting is also showing his age but it's hard not to keep seeing him as Tom Jordache in Rich Man, Poor Man.

Another great movie was Flawless from 1999 with Robert Deniro and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

                                                     Hoffman especially was unbelievable!

Other favorites include:
A Single Shot about Virginia backwoods guys.
What's Cooking - about various Thanksgiving dinner people had
Everything must go with Will Ferrill about a guy living on his lawn when his wife locks him out
Ain't in it for my health with Levon Helm from 'The Band.'  (good music)
'Inspired to ride' about a group of people haviing a bicycle race from Astoria Oregon to Virginia.  (true story and I loved seeing the scenery and people along the way)
'21 Days Under the sky' about guys on motorcycles going from SF to NY.

Yesterday was the 7th year since my dad died and the 14th year since I retired from the mill.  Not much on my calendar for this month so far.  Might make a trip to a Bremerton doctor if I ever hear from their scheduling desk.  Almost time for golf so guess I'll tootle towards my recliner. Am working on a biscuit quilt -- meaning I'm stuffing little squares that have been sewn together.  Won't be very big but ought to be interesting looking.

My Merle Haggard shirt arrived.
And last but not least, another picture or two of "nice people."
