Had a good nights' sleep and wasn't plagued with calf, ankle, foot, or toe cramps. Or nightmares. Sometimes my nights in bed are anything but restful. Looking halfway nice outside today but I don't have any outdoor plans. My right heel caused me a lot of discomfort yesterday and it's still kinda acting up. Wish I knew why. I did make a quick run to the bank and Safeway, but otherwise, it's going to be sewing, reading, napping, and TV. Which means watching Breaking Bad (again) - love that show! And I just discovered dozens of old Dick Cavett interviews from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. I am enjoying them A LOT!
One section had authors: Allen Ginsberg, Truman Capote, Eudora Welty, Kurt Vonnegut, John Updike, and Michael Crichton. Under famous stars, he's got Kirk Douglas, Fred Astaire, Robert Mitchum, Orson Welles, Groucho Marx, Bette Davis, Marlon Brando, Katherine Hepburn, Mel Brooks, John Huston, & Steven Spielberg.
Politicians include Ralph Nader, John Kerry, George H.W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, Ted Kennedy, Rudy Giulani, Sen, Paul Simon, and Alex Haig. Sports stars have Joe Namath, Mickey Mantle, Howard Cosell, Tom Lasorda, Evander Holyfield, Rick Pitino, George Forman, Bob Costas, and Ali.
Horror included Alfred Hitchcock,Janet Leigh, Vincent Price, George Romero, Ira Levin, Peter Straub, and Stephen King.
Rock stars: Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Sly & family Stone, Stevie Wonder, John Lennon & Yoko, George Harrison, Ray Charles, Paul Simon, David Bowie, Little Richard, Mick Jagger, Frank Zappa, and Billy Joel.
Comedians: Woody Allen, Bill Cosby, George Burns, Bob Hope, Jerry Lewis, Jack Benny, Carol Burnett, Lucille Ball, Robin Williams, Eddie Murphy, Richard Lewis, Dennis Leary, Phil Hartman, John Lovitz, Dennis Miller, George Carlin, Steve Martin, & Conan O'Brien.
Even those I'm not all that interested in are intriguing to watch. Many are long dead, of course, but Cavett manages to ask really good questions and it's always surprising to see and listen to these various famous people and to hear their stories. And to see many of them smoking during the interview. Orson Welles was interesting and so was Kirk Douglas. Robert Mitchum, however, (who I've always loved) was very off ease and gave a horrible interview. In my opinion.
A lot of the stars get the whole hour to themselves. Others share the stage -- like the four horror authors. Except for Peter Straub, they were all chain smoking. Dick Cavett eventually asked them if writing horror made them smoke more than usual. King said: I told my wife that anybody can quit smoking but it takes a real man to face lung cancer head on. I'm really looking forward to watching every single episode in the series. Last night it was Kirk Douglas and he talked about how John Wayne was great to work with but they never discuss politics as they totally disagree on just about everything.
Well, that's it for this last day of the month. My sewing machine is set up and waiting as I slide into April on a "let's make something" mood. Am going to slowly work my way through all the quilt panels patterns I have collected from around the state and around the nation - thanks to my step-sister, Shannon.
Looking for my book to arrive Monday, which I know I've already mentioned but it is on my mind.
