My first grand daughter was born on this date in 1989. What a joyous time that was. I was in my mid-forties then and able to move a whole lot faster than I can now -- but that's life. Catie was born in Puyallup and lived for a short time with me in my rented house on Rose Street in PT. Since then she's lived in Port Angeles, Kent, Florida, and Renton. Maybe some other place too that I've forgotten. She lives in Kent now with her very nice boyfriend, Brandon, a fellow from Utah. She works in downtown Seattle and has a busy life. Likes crafty and often sets up a booth at craft fairs. She's a very sweet and nice girl and I'm ever so proud of her. Here are two photos of her from my vast collection.
Maddie and Hunter (taken a few years ago obviously) posing with Catie on my back deck and another of Catie hosting Jake and friends at a play get together to make stuff at her apartment.
This morning, Jenni left with her pal, Julie to go to Southcenter and Puyallup to look around for new furniture for when Jen and Wayne move into their new home. Their house nearby sold quickly and their new house should be ready in a few months. A lot of details to preparing the property such as tree removal, getting septic and electric in, etc. They've picked out the house they want but it will still need the foundation poured. All in good time. They have a small rental to live in for the short time until the house is ready.
I've been spending my mornings sewing for the most part. And reading, watching tv, and napping in the afternoon. Just finished Conrad Richter's book, The Town. There were three in the series -- The Fields, The Trees, and The Town. The last one won a Pulitzer in 1950. About some pioneers traveling to Ohio, clearing the land, and basically starting a town. Went through generations of Sayward Wheeler. She had ten kids and I found that part the most interesting. Especially the youngest who was different than all the rest. He ended up having an affair with his half sister and she committed suicide. He always disliked his parents and siblings and was lazy. In the end, of course, he wised up. Plain old soap opera type story.
Now I'm reading a second book by Elizabeth Strout called The Burgess Boys. I've just started it and am already hooked. The first one I read of hers was My name is Lucy Barton. Loved it! Next I'm going to read Olive Kitteridge which got the Pulitzer. I've watched the movie and thought it was one of the best ever.
I tuned in to the latest season of House of Cards last night. Disturbing. The President and his wife are just too wicked for words. And sadly, I compare their way of being to Trump today. Wouldn't surprise me one bit to find Trump pulling nasty crooked tricks like that.
Friday I'll head to the casino for lunch with the PT girls and Mary Norton in Sequim. The week following I'll drive to PT for the alumni social hour at the Elks and I think that's about the extent of my calendar notations so far. Do have Molly Logan and Mike Logue coming to visit on June 13th, though. Good excuse for me to finally get the carpets cleaned up a bit. I seldom ever have company and getting some is the boost I need to tidy the joint up.
Well, that's about all I got for today. Gonna head for the recliner and see about a short nap. Am finding a daily nap is becoming a necessity these days. Annoys me most of the time as I'd just as soon have the energy to keep sewing or reading. Plan on digging into genealogy research again too. That never grows old.
