Time just flies. Been noticing that more and more in this last segment of my lifespan. Slept until 8 and probably could have slept longer but the neighbors insisted on running their loud truck engine. I sure don't enjoy that first half hour after you crawl out of bed. Never used to be any big deal and I always considered myself a morning person but these past years, my body takes longer to greet the world.
I fixed a poached egg for breakfast, read the PDN (never much in it), and proceeded to browse my favorite websites and snoop around. Tried doing the crossword puzzle online but ever since they've changed their format, I can't seem to complete them. I did send for a crossword puzzle book on Amazon and it's my alternate go-to place. Called "Tuesday Crosswords". Think they're from the NY Times and I know those get harder as the week progresses. Can you tell I don't really have much to yak about today? ha ha
Went downtown to Walgreens and picked up Hidden Figures at the Red Box Machine. I've been wanting to watch the Oscar nominees so I can give them a rating from one to ten. You can do stuff like that when you're retired. I've seen Moonlight, Arrival, Lion, Manchester by the Sea, and Hacksaw Ridge. Moonlight and Arrival totally sucked! Lion was my favorite so far. I'm not really that interested in Lala Land or Fences but do want to see Hell or High Water. I saw a movie on Amazon Prime last night called Captain Fantastic. The star of that movie was nominated for best actor so I watched it. It was filmed in Washington so the scenery was nice but the movie itself was only so-so.
I filled three hummingbird feeders with fresh nectar this morning and then headed for the sewing room to make another string quilt square. At least that's what they're called on the video I watched on YouTube. I'm calling them quilt windows. Have enough small squares prepared to make half a dozen gifts for Christmas. Wall hangings. Here's the first two.....
I'm thinking I need to get started on genealogy research again. I miss it. Still need to find my grandpa's brother, Charlie. Started playing free cell solitaire on my computer the other day and now I'm hooked again. That, and Scrabble are about the only two games I play.
I hung a finch feed sock on my little tree in the backyard and had a pretty bird come around in about two days. Then I decided the sock was hanging down too low on the branch so I transferred it to the fence in the corner of the yard. The birds quit coming so I transferred it back to the tree area again, only this time I hung it on a stake. Stupid me. I had maybe 8 or 10 tall stakes and gave them away when I thought I was going to quit feeding birds. I wish I could make up my mind. Anyhow, I noticed a yellow finch arrived back this morning so I guess I'll leave the sock in place.
Looks like it's going to be a really nice day. The back deck is really warm so I put the table umbrella up again. I had to take it down a few days ago when the wind whipped up. Jenni just left to run errands and visit friends and since she'll be staying at her house again tonight, I'll have the place to myself. Intend to get some reading in along with movie watching. I found some oldies on Netflix so I put them in my file. The Fly (from 1958), Julia, The Longest Day, The day the earth stood still, Hello Dolly, & Howard's End. Just finished watching Anne with an E. Excellent!
Well, kinda running out of things to talk about so I guess I'll end this now.
