Woke up at 5 but forced myself to go back to sleep. Yesterday I got up around 5 and then dealt with fatigue all day. Such is the routine of an old lady now and then. From what I've read online, seniors often deal with not being able to sleep or go back to sleep. I had "one of those" headaches when my eyes finally opened at 7. The kind that go away the minute you get your head off the pillow. I figure it's God's way of getting us up and about. Same with giving us the bladder wake up. All built in to the framework design.
It's amazing how waking up to sunshine and a mowed lawn can lift your spirits. Sue did a lot of weeding around the area the last time she was here and again yesterday. The "down on your knees" type of work and it sure does make a difference. I wish I could get down like that. Only bad mark on the morning is the two pound weight loss I had is now back. But we can blame that on JOYCE! I intend to have a talk with her (again) about her eating habits.
I read Grain Brain and am still thinking about whether or not I have the guts and resolve to follow his diet for a month. It's a super difficult one -- at least for somebody who has made food the center of her life. But enough on that subject. Weight loss is always going to be something I think about. The key is to make it something I act on. Sigh....
My errands today are to hit Safeway for a couple of items and the library for a book they emailed to tell me they're holding. 'The Town' by Conrad Richter. I had put in a request for them to either borrow it from another library or buy it. Read the first two in his series...The Trees, The Fields, and I wanted to see how it turned out for the characters involved. The Town did win the 1950 Pulitzer Prize.
Jenni and Wayne spent the night at The Point in Shelton. Got free massages too. She'll return later this morning I imagine. Their house sale should close in the middle of July so they have to be out before then. They located a small rental house and it continues to amaze me how landlords can charge so much. This place has two little bedrooms and is going for $1000 a month! And they were lucky to find it as rentals are difficult to locate. Not to mention you still need first and last month rent.
No pets either. Sammy will live with me until their new house and property is ready for them to move in. The kids will have their own room and Wayne will sleep in the living room while Jenni continues on here. They have a small travel trailer they'll park in the back so Jenni can stay over now and again with Wayne. Sammy will go with her on those nights too.
Got some cards and letters to write this morning and once my errands are done, I'll probably settle in back at the sewing room for an hour or two. Invested in 5 more yards of batting (kind of like felt) so I can make more quilt squares and use up odd pieces of scrap material.
Here are some of my recent photos of parade day in Port Townsend. Didn't take hardly any this year.
Hip was bothering me too much to get out and walk around and the heat was zapping my energy.
Kris Logue shared this on Facebook. She has the best view in town, in my opinion.
Mary took this one of Jake at the carnival. He had a great time.
An hour before the parade starts at the corner of Lawrence & Quincy
Lill made Jake a special quilt square. Mary & Jake stopped by on their stroll down the street.
me and Mary at the casino earlier last week
My first stop once we set up on picnic chairs at our selected parade watch area
Pat and Connie Kellen up the street from us. I forgot to ask her the other lady was. Bad Joyce.
Jake puts up with picture taking. So cute.
This was kind of an interesting float. Guy looked like he was right out of a Jesus movie.
Cousins came from Tacoma -- Anna, Ann Evans, and Katy Mason. Lill also pictured.
Anna, Ann, and Katy saying goodbye after our lunch at the airport cafe, Spruce Goose.
Here we are again. Lunch was okay but the chairs were terribly hard and uncomfortable.

Another shot of parade watchers that includes Mary and Jake
This shows Sue weeding one of my raised flower beds after mowing the grass. I bought a "sock" to hang from the tree full of thistle seed for the finches. Sure hope they find it.
