Morning shopping

My dinner menus these past years have been getting more and more boring.  Mainly because I haven't made much of an effort to pep things up.  Because I've been working harder at changing the way I eat (mainly because I really NEED TO!) I bought a couple of vegan books to get some healthy recipes.  I'm probably repeating myself but I do that.

Anyhow, I got up and headed to Walmart early as I wanted to take my time and poke around to look over various items I've never bought before.  Got there early enough to hear the WM crew running through their morning cheers. They were in a circle in the bakery dept, clapping, chanting, and giving each other pep talks.  Too bad they don't spend a little of that energy placing clerks throughout the store in various departments to help people find what they're looking for.  They could use a couple of sitdown benches too!  But enough on that.

I bought an eggplant as I found a casserole recipe that looked pretty darn good.  I also bought steel cut oats instead of rolled oats.  A little more expensive and the box was heavier so we'll see how they taste.  I also picked up some frozen chicken breast patties and trail mix snacks and wheat flour. Just little changes here and there to start.  No ice cream, of course, but I did purchase some fruit popsycles.  Right now I've got a ham hock simmering with carrots, celery, and onion. Going to make green split pea soup this afternoon, and will add smoked sausage and potatoes. Plus anything else I find in the fridge that needs to be used up.

I've been irritated that the scale isn't going down each morning when I eagerly step onboard to see a difference because I've refrained from the bad stuff.  Decided I'd better just continue on the road to healthy eating and whatever weight I lose will be a pleasant surprise.

Noticed a police car parked across the street when I arrived home from Walmart and Safeway. Seems the thieves are still alive and well around here.

They broke into the construction van on that building site and stole a chop saw and other stuff.  My neighbor had told the foreman a couple days ago that she'd seen the door open. I wonder if they were stealing then.  God, but I hate thieves!

Received a very sad email this morning.  My cousin, Cindy, in Gig Harbor, came home from work and found her husband dead in the driveway. Apparently had a heart attack. I feel terrible. Such a nice guy and so nice.  Him and Cindy just became new grandparents a couple years back. A grim reminder that you never know how life is short until something like this happens.
I'm heading to a book reading in an hour.  Local authors.  Perhaps I'll finish this blog then.  Event lasted about an hour. Half a dozen authors read from their books. It was interesting.  I bought four books. The assisted living place where it was held sure was nice. I'd love to live there but probably couldn't afford it.

Came home and finished working on my pot of pea soup.  Thinking I need to write another Leader blog but can't quite put my finger on a subject. A little too sad today.  I went out and filled a second garbage lid with water for the birds. The metal one just doesn't seem to last long.  It's used a lot.  Well, I guess I'm rambling again. Time to call it a day.
