It's Tuesday again

Well, I certainly don't write on my blog as much as I used to but then again, I don't get out and about and you can only write so long on the birds in the yard, what you're sewing or tv that annoys. Today, it's tv time.

Since I cancelled cable tv over a year ago and settled in with Amazon Prime,Netflix, and Hulu, it isn't often I'm missing regular television.  Usually just sports events or awards shows.  I can now cross off missing the Emmys.  I signed up (a week free trial) with Hulu Live TV yesterday.  Was kind of difficult learning to surf around and see what there was to see and I've pretty much decided that I'll cancel once the week is close to being up.

I did watch the "pre-show" and the Emmy Show but I found myself putting the tv on mute an awful lot.  And using less than lady-like language throughout the whole thing.
The commercials sucked!  It's amazing how annoying they are when they haven't been aired in your house for a long time.  But besides that, the Emmy Show STUNK!  Big time!  Whoever is writing the scripts needs to be given their walking papers.  Way too much silly and adolescent humor about blacks not having enough recognition.

I also didn't like the way the memoriam section was presented and that's usually my favorite part.  The jokes bantered before each presentation got worse and worse as the night wore on and once the winners were announced, you were lucky if you could figure out the name of the person and the show they won for.  I say this because I had watched few of the nominees and didn't actually know who was who.

I was happy with some of the winners, though. Henry Winkler (even though I've never seen Barry) was obviously so thankful and surprised, he deserved to win for best supporting actor.  And Merritt Wever for best supporting actress in Godless (again, even though I've never seen Godless). I loved her in Nurse Jackie.  I also think they got the best actor and best actress awards right - Matthew Rhys for The Americans (which I have seen and loved!) and Claire Foy for The Crown -- also a show I've seen and adored!

The wedding proposal -- good Lord! What some people will do to get attention.  And bless her heart, we all love Betty White but bringing her on stage with her walker just because she's 96 and been in tv forever didn't make much sense.  All she did was say "oh my goodness!"  And yes, I know how I sound but Betty has had her day and if they want to honor an old timer, there are plenty of people out there --and you could do better than just letting them stand there and smile.  Show clips at least!
Probably the most annoying award was to Rupaul's drag race. Gag me!

On the plus side of my disappointment is the realization that I don't need cable tv.  It's really working hard to dumb down folks.  And that's my rant for today.

I fasted yesterday.  It was a little harder than usual (but not that bad) because I had been half sick the day before and hadn't eaten much at all.  Still, the one-day-a-week regime seems to be helping and it's actually just mind over matter.  Sometimes I break the fast a tiny bit and have half a banana or half an apple but most of the time, I rely on coffee, tea, and water.  And chewing gum.  You can't really tell yet that I've lost any weight but I'm down 20 pounds and that's encouraging.

Going to spend the day (like yesterday) sewing. Have been cutting out 2-1/2" squares like crazy along with 5" squares as I saw this easy peasy video on youtube for a quilt square I want to make.  I made a couple of small pillows yesterday. Nothing fancy; was just practicing my applique fusing techniques. I kind of like the whale.
Saw a chicken walk across my lawn as I saw there. At least 3 or 4 neighbors have chicken pens so I don't know who this lady escaped from.
The new houses on the street all received more lumber this week.  I guess it must have came with the house deals and it appears it's wood for back fences.  The two across from me have already mowed a couple of time and their grass looks so pretty.
Well, I guess I'll work my online crossword puzzle now, unload the dishwasher, and make up a grocery list.  Nothing much on the agenda until Saturday when I turn 75. How the hell did that happen?!  Going out to dinner with Mary and Andy and Jake to a  really fancy wancy place in my neighborhood and on Sunday Jenni and Wayne will join us for breakfast at The Whistling Frog.

Here's three of the latest from Maddie at Central Wash. University ---

and here's  a  photo from Facebook that I thought was funny...
