Tuesday, 9/11/18

It's going on noon and I'm sitting here trying to decide exactly what I might want to spend my time doing today. I did pull a couple of jigsaw puzzles from the shelf in the garage and I may (or not) set them up to amuse myself.  Have to be in the mood.

Ran a few errands around town and when I got home, I figured I might as well light a couple of candles since the house smelled like fried food.  Had a nice breakfast but was trying to use up leftovers so the frying pan got put into service.  Only trouble with candles is that after a half hour, their smell bothers me.  Kind of like Joanne's Fabric Store.  All their candles and potpourri crap gives me a headache.  I bought a pin cushion while I was there as mine is starting to shed sawdust. I've probably had that cushion for decades. I've had other pin cushions or was given cushions but sometimes you're just used to using your own. Does that make sense? Probably not but I know what I mean.

I stopped in at Olympic Stationers downtown to see what they had in the way of framing supplies. Not much but I may go back later.  I had gone to the framing store yesterday to get a couple of estimates on two counted cross stitch designs I wanted to frame. I don't know how they've stayed open as many years as they have. They have good reviews on their webpage but framing must be one of those arts that people with money invest in.  I did have a needlepoint picture framed by them years back (it was a gift from a neighbor) and I remember thinking then that I probably wouldn't have things framed too often as it was expensive.  Still, I thought I would see what it would cost for my latest work of art. $158!  What?!  I don't think so -- and I kept stressing I wanted to go the cheapest route.  I had a second cross stitch which was only 6x9 and I had my own frame but they wanted $25+ to do that one.  Nope. Gonna have to study Youtube video and take my time and do these little projects myself.

They might not look all that professional but I'll be darned if I'm paying that much for framing.  I went to Goodwill and picked up a couple of small 5x7 frames for my small cross stitch and another one I'm working on.  They were reasonable in price and one was brand new. Unfortunately, though, after I got home  I discovered a shoe box in the garage of frames that I had hung on to. Hate it when I don't pay attention!  Oh well, I'll find a use for all of them eventually.

Strolled through Big Lots which is next door to Joanne's but as usual, I found nothing of interest. If anything, their store is getting more boring everytime I go in there. I seriously doubt I'll make another trip.  And I didn't like the air in there. Kind of hard to breathe, if that makes sense. Too stuffy or something.  I remember years ago at the Sequim Walmart I used to have the same problem with the atmosphere. Especially towards the back of the store in the fabric section.  I asked the clerks once if they had breathing difficulties and they said yes.

I ran into an old school chum at Goodwill. She left PT when she was in the 2nd or 3rd grade to move to Port Angeles after her mom died. Her brothers, however, stayed on in PT.  She doesn't live that far from me so I'm going to head that direction this week and take her some yarn I'm not using -- plus a table runner --whether she wants it or not! ha ha

Went to the doctor yesterday and had a shoulder x-ray. It doesn't bother me but the upper part of my arm has ached continuously since the first of July. I had a cortisone shot in August but that didn't seem to touch it.  I'm also going to have a stress test in a couple of weeks and then a pulmonary test.  I read online yesterday that Medicare is wanting to cut back what they'll pay doctors for reimbursement for medicare patients.  They sure don't have any trouble raising our monthly premium, though. It's all a racket!

Checked out three seasons of Upstairs Downstairs at the library yesterday. Even though I've seen them before, they're still good entertainment.  I've been watching the PBS show of Victoria on Amazon this week.  It's pretty good too. I generally like all the British shows.

Well, the dishes are all washed up and I don't really have any chores that need doing so guess I'll play a couple games of freecell before I start in on my genealogy paperwork.  I fixed up a couple of notebooks with the Blankenship and Holt data and now I need to try again to see what I can find on the Downs family. (my grandpa Gene's mom)

Wish I had some fish in the house. I'm really in the mood for fish today. I'll settle for chicken breast, though; have plenty of that in the freezer.  Tomorrow will be my fast day for this week.  Was happy to see I'd dropped another 5 pounds at the doctor's office yesterday.  My b/p was good too but other body parts are still letting me know I'm almost 75 years old!

Was nice to wake up to the sound of rain this morning but the sun is shining again and that's fine too. Guess I'll go check the mail and see what kind of junk he left today. Seems like all I do is retrieve from the mailbox and deposit it all in the recycle bin.
