Today has had peaks and lows. I always get up feeling like hell; nothing new there but as the morning progressed, things perked up a bit. I went to my LAST physical therapy appt for my shoulder and that lifted my spirits. I gave her a painted rock of Santa as a goodbye and thank you gift. Then it was off to Walmart to pick up my prescription. I only take two pills a day so my drug costs haven't been too bad. Still.....when the insurance company up and decides they're not going to pay as much as they used to, it TICKS ME OFF! Especially when they randomly raise their rates too. I hate medical insurance. Hate cable too. Anyhow, I've been thinking how going clear across town (15 miles round trip) to get my prescriptions has been a royal pain in the butt. I got a printout of my drug list for the year (just because I was curious) and drove over to Rite Aid to talk to their pharmacist. Come to find out, my prescriptions will cost the same with my insurance no matter where I go. I was under the impression that Humana gave the best prices with Walmart only. Not so.
I changed my pharmacy right then and there. This store is next door to Goodwill (where I go now and again) and is the closest one to my house. Just not having to drive all the way over to WM perked up my mood a bit.
From there I went to Safeway. Only spent $13 as I didn't need much but I did need gas and that put a dent in the wallet. I picked up some lunch meat at the deli and came home to fix myself a sandwich for lunch. Tomorrow is garbage pick up day (I set out bins every other Friday) and while I didn't have enough garbage to bother pulling them to the alley, I did have a bin full of recyclables. Mainly cardboard from my deliveries from Amazon. I cut the boxes up (they were all huge) and then pulled the bin to the alley, happy to be done with it.
I decided I needed to run the vacuum a bit so I did that and discovered that I really needed to sit down. I've had a terrible problem with shortness of breath the last week or so. Doing anything leaves me winded and that includes minor stuff I had no difficulty with before. I've also been coughing more and spitting and gagging like crazy in the mornings so I assume this whole affair is bronchitis or at the least, morning gunk! My chest hurts a bit, my ears hurt now and again, and I get headaches. I decided that was enough symptoms to make a doctor appt. I need to find out about the pulmonary test I had yesterday anyhow. I think I did okay on it even though I was congested. At least I didn't cough all the way through it so I assumed I passed fine. I have noticed (again) red blood blisters (I guess that's what you call them) on the tops of my hands and wrists and going up my arms a little. Google says it's thin skin of old people and poor circulation. Or something like that. I'll have to go read it again. I know older folks get those marks, especially if they take aspirin but I haven't been taking aspirin. Just tylenol and if I'm really hurting, ibuprofen.
My regular doctor is always booked weeks out so I seldom see her anymore. I go to the P.A. that works with her and I like her fine. Much easier to get into and I'll see her next Monday bright and early at 8 a.m.
I've gotten two Christmas cards so far. I did decide I'm going to send out a few this year. I ordered three different designs online. At least I think I did. I'll have to go check my Amazon orders. Been trying to figure out what to say in a Christmas letter. Was easier in years past when I could just rattle on about the kid's various activities and places and things I'd done. What with social media now, however, everybody already knows my business. I might pull out my old letters of decades past and use parts of them in my latest letter for 2018. Good for laughs if nothing else.
After getting a few household chores done and finding my breathing was challenged if I didn't sit, I decided a nap was in order. My recliner is in my bedroom (to make room when the new flooring is installed) and the room is dark because I have black curtains. I settled on the recliner with my electric nap blanket turned on medium and I even turned the heat register on --and I was sitting right next to it. With all that, I still found myself being cold. I knew that meant rotten circulation and I was reminded of how hot my dad's apartment used to be in his senior years. I'm there now I guess.
I forced myself up after an hour and a half and I mean forced! I could easily have stayed there napping for two more hours. That's not good. I went into the kitchen, cut up a head of lettuce before it went bad, and distributed it between half a dozen Tupperware bowls. Figure I'll be more apt to eat a salad if it's mostly already made in the fridge. Yesterday I finished up three small quilts and while I was happy I completed the project, I was worn out. Sewing can make you tired. I heated up a Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich in the microwave for dinner and figured that was good enough. I'll do better tonight with a pork chop, mashed potatoes, gravy, and veggie.
I got two CDs in the mail this week. Both were because of songs I heard in movies I saw on Amazon or Netflix. The Band has 18 tracks I think and the other was Leonard Cohen. I also ordered three books from where my granddaughter works. She had given me a gift card and shipping was free so my total was only $5.60. I liked that. You should look over their website. thriftbooks.com If you click on "blogs" you can read one I wrote a while back.
All my Christmas shopping is done now and everything is wrapped. Using bags is so much easier. I do want to hang a few outside lights but I'll probably wait until after Dec. 1st. Several houses on my street already have theirs up. I usually hang a couple strings in the backyard on my two little trees as my living room looks out that direction instead of the street.
Latest thing I watched on Netflix is The Kominsky Method. I laughed and laughed and laughed. A whole lot of jokes about seniors that I could identify with. Alan Arkin's role was the best. Mary and Andy are getting a new puppy on Dec. 8th from Eastern Washington. A miniature golden doodle that Jake is calling Poppy. I'll be riding along with Jenni on Dec. 21st when she goes to pick up Hunter at the airport so we'll stay the night and probably have our gift exchange then. Jenni and Wayne want to be home with the kids for Xmas so I'll probably drop in at some point and see what's for supper. I just hate cooking anymore.
I did get an invite for Dec. 15th at a restaurant in PT (classmates) so I may try to drive in for that so I can give out a couple presents and see the gang.
I saw an article in the paper earlier this week that a relative of my purse snatcher (last March) was arrested for assault. He's well known to the police apparently. Their mother must be so proud.
Below is a picture showing tree damage on San Juan Avenue in PT. Wish they'd had that sidewalk when I was bike riding that road on a daily basis.
And last but not least, three Pickles cartoons that tickled me.
