On the Road with Maddie

My granddaughter is  home from college right now and agreed to accompany me into Port Townsend today as I had several quick stops to make.

What a fun day.  But....man, am I ever tired.  Seems to be the story of my life lately but I'll deal with it one way or another!  I think we had about a dozen stops altogether. First was the Dollar Tree in P.A. where I wanted to stock up on batteries in case we lose power again.  The manager was busy stocking the battery shelf when I was there. Said he can't hardly keep them on the shelf as people are buying them in bulk.

I was sure thankful that we had no rain all day long.  Especially when yesterday was dark and gloomy and never quit raining.  Our first stop was at my brother's place on Four Corners Road.  His wife showed us some of her quilts she's working on so naturally, I had to grab my camera.  She discovered boxes of tee shirts from the many races they've run over the decades and boy, are those quilts gonna be nice.

Here's a shot of them in their kitchen and another with me posing. Maddie was my photographer.

From there we went to my niece's house in Hadlock but we caught them at a bad time so I didn't get a picture.  Drove out to Marrowstone Island to see my other brother, Les, and had Maddie take a picture of us (me holding this neat car he gave me). I also took one of two of the four dogs that were nearby.

Next we went to see Barbara Shaw in town and I took a picture of her son's dogs as well as her son's lunchbox collection. Really cool!

Our next stop was at Sharon Sofie's place. I hadn't seen her new home yet so that was fun. She gave me this really neat quilted wall hanging that you can store Christmas cards  in.

Then it was over to Ruthie's house.  I got her out of bed but we didn't stay long at any of the stops as Maddie was hoping to get a run in back in P.A. before it got dark.
Next we headed to my cousin, Bill Arey's place but he was at Safeway so I had Maddie take a picture of me and Teresa.
Up over the hill to Bill's brother's house (Lee Arey) and I got one of me and him and another of me with Elaine and her daughter, Michelle, who was visiting.

Our last stop was at Don's Pharmacy to get burgers for lunch. Yum!  As we got back in the car, I decided I need yet another picture of the ferry coming into the dock.  I also saw Peggy Mosher at the lunch counter and visited with her a while.

After I dropped Maddie off at home, I was heading towards my house and was stopped at a stop sign. This homeless woman knocked on my window asking if I'd give her a ride just a couple minutes down the road. She was carrying several plastic bags so I figured --what the hell, it's Christmas.  I should have known I'd pick up a homeless person who was a jerk!  Once I realized where she really wanted me to take her,  (downtown) I told her I wasn't going that far so I'd drop her at the grocery store in my neighborhood where I was going.

That didn't suit her, though. She told me to take her back to where she was as she didn't want to stand down there.  Well, I wasn't about to do that as I was on a road difficult to turn around on. She didn't talk much so I quit trying to engage her in friendly conversation.  I took her where she wanted to go as I decided I could probably go to Safeway nearby anyhow.  Before she got out of the car, she asked for money for a cup of coffee.  I said sorry.  Then she wanted me to buy her a hamburger. I said sorry.
She started muttering and got out pissed off at me!  And didn't even say thanks for the ride. That'll teach me! Wish I'd taken her picture.

Tomorrow I'm making fudge and Friday Maddie will drive me to Renton to spend two days at Mary's house.  Looking forward to that. Jake turns five; plus they have a new puppy.  We're having tacos on Saturday and then Maddie will probably drive me back on Sunday as she has to work.  Mary will be picking Hunter up at the airport on Friday too.

My hope now is that I can shake this cough and not be hacking my head off the whole time.  It's mainly leftover crap from my Thanksgiving bronchial cold. Wearing me down but it doesn't flare up unless I move around or talk.  Poor me.

Hope you all have a restful holiday.
