Getting odd jobs done

Some days you wake up and just seem to hit the right note as far as getting things off your to-do list.  I could do a lot more if my low back and hips would forget  just how old they are. It's something you have to learn to live with -- not being able to do as much as you used to. And in some cases, not being able to even try to do things you used to. I'm dealing with it. Not happily but it is what it is.

Even when it's insignificant small tasks, if you can cross a whole bunch off your list, it's very satisfying.  Today, for example, I typed up (in larger font) a few passwords of the websites I use frequently so I'm not always having to go hunt them up in my special green book.  Taped them to the wall near my laptop.  I cleaned a few more things up in the library (meaning the back room) and in the process, discovered two boxes of knickknacks in the garage that I had mislaid.  I wasn't about to leave those treasures in the cold garage so I had to rearrange a few shelves to accommodate them.

I got the front porch and steps swept off. Unloaded and loaded the dishwasher. Washed a load of laundry. Boned a chicken. Made a new box to keep bills in so I'm not having to go hunt for them. Put all my magnets back on the refrigerator. Cleaned out a junk drawer, and filled my vitamin dispenser for the week.  I also attempted to glue two knickknacks that got broke when I was boxing stuff up to prepare for the floor work that was to be done.  Irritated me that the glue wasn't holding. It's suppose to be good stuff (E6000) but maybe I'll go buy some super glue.  I could just toss them.
One is a small St. Bernard who lost a paw and a tail. The other is this old Chinese fisherman holding a fish.  Several years ago I bought four of these and gave them to each of my kids so they'd have the exact same knickknack in each of their homes.  For whatever reason, I thought they'd think that was touching.  But no.  That wasn't the case.  I never saw the fisherman displayed in any of their homes and I bet they all went to Goodwill before New Years.  I did find Jenni's in her garage when I was babysitting so I just took it and didn't tell her.  Figured she'd never miss it and so far, she's never wondered what happened to it.  ha ha  There must have been several poses of this old fisherman because when I was at Paul Jacobsen's house a couple weeks ago, he had one on display. Looked like mine only his had a fishing bowl with fish on it.

I'm playing my new CD right now. Soundtrack from A Star is Born with Lady Gaga.  I like her songs okay (like them a lot really) but most of the tracks don't appeal to me that have Bradley Cooper singing. I may try to see if I can download the disk to my other laptop so I can burn a disk of songs I want. I think that requires using Itunes and I always have trouble with that website. Maybe Mary will help me this weekend. They're coming over to attend a superbowl party at Tami's place on Sunday.

I watched 'The Wife' with Glenn Close yesterday. It was okay but I certainly couldn't figure out why she won best actress at two award ceremonies. She was okay. Good even but not award quality, in my opinion. Today I'm watching Bohemian Rhapsody.  I watched a few episodes of Life Below Zero last night.  One of the guys on there is such an annoyance. He has a new girl friend now and he treats her just like he did his last girl friend. Like a hired hand. I'll have to go online and see if anybody else is commenting on him. Oh, the things that interest me these days.  ha ha

Ordered two pair of compression socks yesterday from Amazon. Had to study up and figure out which ones were worth the money. That meant reading reviews. Always interesting.  I've been bothered with swollen toes, feet, ankles, and calves the last few days and went running to the doctor.
They're better today but I need to wear the socks more frequently than I do, drink more water, and eat less salt. All of which knew but since my kidney lab numbers have been up and down (meaning ok and bad) from time to time, I get worried if they end up looking like pig sausages first thing in the morning.  Oh the joys of aging. Always something new to experience.

Postal service continues to irritate me too.  A friend sent me a check for one of my books but she sent it to the "other" Joyce in Sequim, who is married to my cousin. She realized it was for me so called up to get my address so she could forward it.  I've been watching the mail and today I get a phone call from the friend who mailed the check telling me it showed back up in her box. It wouldn't have killed the post office to forward it like the other Joyce wrote on the envelope.  I just bought a book of stamps and it cost me $11. Gonna have to cut down on mailing.

Well, I think I'll go fix dinner ahead.  I bought one of those already cooked chickens at Safeway for $8 and it was delicious.  I ate about half of it in one sitting (but it was a small bird). I boned the rest and will use it for sandwiches and a casserole I'm throwing together with cream of chicken soup, noodles, and broccoli.  Yum!

Cute cartoon in the paper this morning that tells it like it is...
