Here Comes February

From the sound of the tv weathermen, we're in for a bumpy road this weekend and next week.  I don't drive in the snow and I pretty much avoid the roads if it looks even a little bit icy. Just not my cup of tea.  My son-in-law wasn't able to work part of the time this week (FedX driver) so he was handy to have around when he offered to pick up a few groceries.  He's at the store again today but when he called, I told him the street looked fine in front of my house so I ventured downtown.  Needed to pick up a prescription and Safeway was in the next block.  Definitely a feeling of suppressed excitement in the air as I maneuvered my cart around folks -- many talking about the upcoming storm. I got my comfort foods first off -- bagels, Oreos, and ice cream. Yeah, I don't mess around when I know I'm going to be confined to quarters.  I also picked up one of those delicious smoked barbequed already cooked chickens they sell in the deli.  They're great for at least 3 meals (or more) if I don't eat like a pig!

Wayne is stopping in to pull my garbage bin down to the alley for me. I haven't set it out for four weeks so it's heavy and full. I wasn't sure how I would manage as it's difficult for me to pull even when the yard has no snow.  I have an early Monday morning doctor appt but when I called to ask them if I should reschedule, the woman said they'd understand if I can't drive but we'll just play it by ear.  Took me a month to get that appt so I hope I'm not put out another four weeks.  But....if I am, I am. I had to reschedule my ophthalmologist appt a few days ago because that appt was also early morning and they planned on dilating my eyes. I knew driving on ice was not going to happen, especially if I could only see things in a blur.  That appt was postponed for -- yep!  A month away. We obviously need more medical people in this community.  But then I suppose patients everywhere have to wait, no matter where they live.

The cold temps have sure done a number on my body this winter. Seems like I hurt all over and in several new spots. The latest being my right thumb and wrist. I meant to buy a wrist brace when I picked up my pills and I forgot.  I suppose I could go out again but I'm not in the mood. Traffic was kind of heavy in spots.

I got a new jigsaw for Christmas and I brought the box in from the garage this morning as I intend to mess with it while the white stuff keeps me homebound.  I've also got my sewing room back now that the carpet is laid and the flooring in the house is done.  I've got a new twin mattress on order for the bed in there but it won't be in until this weekend so I probably can't get it home until the end of next week. Depends on how brave Wayne feels about driving.  Since he drives for a living, he's used to it but I don't want to take advantage.  But I will.  I can certainly entertain myself inside easy enough but I DO NOT WANT my power to be interrupted.  I can tolerate the dark but not the COLD!

I decided to turn on the news first thing this morning to GMA and Today to see what their weathermen were discussing.  Right off the bat, I have to listen to a woman being found stuffed in a suitcase. The second story up was a politician messing with some woman. Good Lord! Nothing changes on those supposedly morning news shows. They might as well put Maury Povich on!  I turned it off. Same thing I do anytime Trump shows up. Don't need to listen to that garbage.

Here's various pictures I kept to post on my blog whenever I got around to writing a few lines. Most I've already posted on Facebook but then not everybody is a fan of FB.
This picture is from earlier this week and appeared in the local newspaper. 8th St is the main drag I drive to get to town. That grocery on the right is where I buy stamps and lotto tickets.
Here's a view of the new hardwood flooring.
This a the rug that Mary gave me. I just love it.
Out to dinner for Mexican food.
Jake preferred grilled cheese and fries.
Jenni and Maddie who was home for the weekend to see her "coastie" friend
Lill and Dana posing with Poppy
This is so true!
Wayne stopped in and pulled my garbage bin to the alley.  Not an easy task for me anymore.
The mattress store called much to my relief and my twin mattress arrived sooner than expected. Wayne and I went up to get it. I needed a stool to get into the cab of Wayne's truck and it's wasn't pretty watching me hop out on my own.
This is the other side of the room where the bed sits. My sewing area. Very handy as the ironing board is right there and a large tv sits in front of me.

After Wayne left, I made up the bed. It sure feels softer than the double one I tested out at the store but I'll make it work one way or the other. I plan on sleeping on it tonight to see if I do any better than on my 'bed in a box' mattress.  If I don't, I'll deal with it. At least I have a nice guest rooms for overnight folks now -- and right next to the bathroom.

I decided to sit down and put new shoe strings in this beat up pair of sneakers that I'm not quite ready to toss yet.  They never stayed tied and I don't know why it took me so long to change the strings. If there's anything I hate, it's having to bend over in the street or a store to tie my shoes.  I'm sure I look like a cartoon.

Mary brought me a box of old 45s that I had  stored at her house or gave her? At any rate, Wayne collects them so I'm gifting them to him. I typed up the titles so he could research them easier to see if any are worth money.  He thought two Elvis ones that have four songs on it might be worth something along with Yesterday by the Beatles and Hats off to Larry by Del Shannon.  If I can get it to cut and paste on my blog, I'll post it below. Meanwhile, have a nice February and stay warm.
