Second Day of the Year

Sitting here in my nice warm and cozy bedroom listening to Bob Dylan. And others.  I moved my radio in here (along with the small tv, laptop, printer, and favorite books.  The room heats up quickly and I seem to require warm temps more through our cold winter days.  Not that I'd consider a move south.  That's way more work than I'd want to devote myself to.  My little radio may  not be fancy but it suits my needs. Plays CDs and tapes as I continue to drag my feet jumping into the modern world of music.  Speaking of which -- my son-in-law drove into Port Townsend today to hunt the thrift stores for old 45's. He collects them so he's in the market if you've got some goodies.  I dug out the few I have to give him but I don't know if he'll be interested.  They're certainly not in prime condition as I played them hard back in the day. I used to have a ton of records.  Didn't we all?  I looked on eBay to see what, if anything, mine are worth.  People are nuts when it comes to pricing their goods. One guy wanted $3.39 for the Dion record I have of Abraham,Martin, and John while the next guy thought his was worth $!95.00!

I'm half tempted to buy an Echo to try and reclaim my days of listening.  While at Mary's house, I asked Alexia to play Theme from a Summer's Place by Percy Faith (my favorite song) and darned if she didn't have it in her little catalog.  Amazing.  I did look into getting an Echo Dot as my granddaughter said you can pick them up for $50 or less.  I hesitated because it looked like I'd have to program it to make it work and that always gives me pause.

I've got my large oversize color tv advertised for $20 along with a nice turntable table w/two shelves but all I've had so far is inquiries asking if it's still available.  I'm thinking if it doesn't sell, I'll just move it back into the corner of my sewing room so I'll have my roku channels to keep me entertained.  Oh.....here comes Elvis....Polk Salad Annie.  He does that song so well. Just a minute while I get up to dance and pretend I have still have the moves.

I picked up a couple of free magazines at the library the other day. I always check their free material. I took  two called Clean Eating.  Every January I tell myself "this is the year I eat healthy."  One recipe caught my attention. Simple ingredients and told how to "bake" these doughnuts instead of frying them.  I love doughnuts.  Decided I would try them out. Then.....I read closer and realized it was a recipe for dog doughnuts. Yep. For dogs. Might have known it would appeal to me.

I was sitting in my recliner last night and decided I'd clean out all my messages.  After a while when I WAS NOT getting to the end of the list, I scrolled downward several pages and discovered the messages went all the way back to 2009.  Ten years of messages. Who would have thought?  I lost interest and moved on.

TV viewing:  I had to go to bed 'cause I was tired but intend to finish watching a movie on Prime tonight. (only on Prime they said)  Called Life Itself.  Really good. Was written and produced by Fogelman, the guy behind 'This is Us.'  Other movies enjoyed recently include Sandra Bullock in Bird Box (sci fi) and Dumplin'.  I subscribed to Showtime for one month to watch everything they had that I thought might interest me.  I watched a few episodes of Penn & Teller where they tore down theories and ideas on a ton of subjects.  Interesting but yet irritating too.  I also watched 8 episodes of Ray Donovan.  Loved that show but lost interest when he kept getting beat up terribly bad and then walking away.  The last one he was thrown from a second floor window, had glass sticking out of his shoulder, and he ran from the bad guys. Give me a break!  The relatives he had were really interesting to watch too.  Jon Voight as his dad was especially good and so were his three brothers.

Yesterday I got hooked on new episodes of Life Below Zero.  I could watch that show all day.  Golf too.  I love having more channels.  I gave the Rose Bowl until half time and then lost interest. I thought the commentators were bragging more about Ohio anyhow.

Sometime this month the house will get new hardwood floors. Really looking forward to everything getting back where it belongs.  I lay in bed at night and rearrange each room in the house in my head trying to decide where I want what.  I've accepted the fact that moving furniture is not going to be one of my hobbies anymore. My back refuses to participate. I've been suffering with on and off sciatica for a couple weeks or so. Besides that, Mary tells me moving furniture isn't good for the floors.

Meanwhile, I've been working on little odd jobs here and there that need doing -- cleaned the hummingbird feeders and they immediately started coming around again.
Pulled some weeds out front (and that's all I intend to do)

I need to take my car to the car wash. They have a new one near here where you wash the car yourself but I've never been to those so I may ask Jen or Wayne to go with me.  I was forced to use Windex on the back window yesterday once I realized I couldn't see out the back too well.

Oh yay! Just got a text from Wayne saying he'd stop in and move my pots on the deck for me.  Hmmmmm....a few birthdays for me to remember this month.  Wayne on the 9th, Jenni on the 20th, Mary Gaboury on the 27th, and if my dad was alive, he'd be 96 tomorrow.  And if I was still married, Friday would be my 55th anniversary. Maybe I'll call John and see if remembers. ha ha ha ha ha

Not too much on my calendar activity wise for January but then my calendar activities haven't amounted to a hill of beans all year long.  Just hope I don't have to write in too many dang blasted doctor appts.  But I probably will. I feel like hell most of the time. Poor me.

Well, time to get busy on cleaning up computer files and refiling photos here and there. It's already 3 o'clock and my energy level dips in the afternoon. I may have to start fresh tomorrow morning.
