And here comes February

As usual, my blog posting is hit and miss.  Mostly because I don't have much change in day to day routines right now and life is boring. Well, not boring..but yeah....boring.

Yesterday the mailman brought me this Jerry Lee Lewis album I ordered. Unfortunately, I ordered a vinyl instead of a CD and since I have no record player, I'm not happy with my inattention.  I prepared to return it and happily, was told to just keep it and they'd credit my account. That happens every once in a while. Meanwhile, I've got this record I really want to listen to. It's one of duets with other people and it's on the Sun label.  When I had my garage sale last summer, one of the things I sold was my turntable stored on a high shelf in the garage for a long time that converts records to CDs. I hesitated to sell it but I didn't have any records onhand and I was trying to downsize everything.  I had converted many many records with it.  I do recall that the woman I sold it to was happy to get it and since she was a techy type, she planned to learn how to use it.  I wrote down either her email address or her phone number so I could give her a call in the future as she also planned to convert vhs tapes to discs and I really wanted to do that.

So......I proceeded to look for where I put her number. I have a bad habit of putting "things to remember" is several places. I've got to stop that!  I looked everywhere and couldn't find it. While going through this detailed and complicated process, I discovered that I have a TON of things and items that need to be put where I can find them in a central location OR deleted altogether.  Good Lord!  The things I've kept on my computer.

Since I had brought out my large PC to the kitchen table (along with my laptop) to work on a photo project I had in mind with family pictures, I decided this entire month might end up with me cleaning out pictures and files and notes and receipts and on and on.....

I actually like doing these kind of chores.  I pretty much like any project that keeps me on my butt. ha ha   At any rate, that's my plan for now.  I also have side projects of jigsaw puzzle, sewing, reading, cross stitch, and whatever else crosses my mind.  I've been keeping my jigsaws down to 500 pieces as the larger ones take up too much room and take too long to finish. I do have an impatient side. The one bad thing about puzzles is that I can get involved and spend too much time not getting anything else done.

Yesterday I went to the Elwha Casino with Jen. Treated her to a belated birthday lunch. We both ordered their chef's salad (large) and took them home for eating later. Mine is gonna be dinner tonight and probably dinner tomorrow night.  It was fun playing the slots and we only played for an hour. I lost $20 but that's okay. I was up $30 at one point but you know how that goes.

After she dropped me back home, I went to Safeway and RiteAid.  I was curious about the savings of my prescriptions so asked the pharmacist what the two drugs would cost that I take if I opted out of my drug insurance.  I pay $32 a month and (so far) only take two drugs; both for high blood pressure. I will be keeping my insurance after I found out the cost of them w/o insurance. My God!  Those drug companies are out of control!  The one I pay $1.47 for would cost $83 and the one I pay $16.70 for would cost $190. Those are both 3-month bottles but it did tell me I'd better continue with the insurance premiums.
Normally, I'd probably pay it no mind but any time I start getting hit with rate increases in several directions, I get annoyed and that's putting it mildly.  The SS increases we get now and then mean absolutely nothing in the real world as other things go up and I almost always end up having less in my pocket each month.
The AARP medical supplement is going up in April and my car insurance went up $94 a year. I've had no tickets, no claims, no accidents but am being penalized because I turned 76 and because they felt it was time for a rate increase overall. Cable also went up and I only have it because of internet. No tv coverage.  And we all know about food prices always going up. Say with gas. You can't win.  I am going to take the trouble to check out other car insurances, though.  At least one more. State Farm quoted me the same as Allstate so I'm going to see what Hartford has to offer. And maybe Progressive or Geiko.

In about a week, Mary and Andy's dog, Poppy, will come to stay with me for about 7 days while they take Jake to Disneyland. It'll be fun. I like Poppy and Jen and I will take her and Sammy to the dog park.

If you subscribe to Hulu, a show I just discovered is called Getting on.  Has to do with nurses aids working on the floor of a hospital in England that takes care of old women.   Another one I found amusing was Shrill.  On Netflix I'm watching Outlander and on Disney+ I'm hooked (again) on Life Below Zero on Nat'l Geographic channel.

With the Oscars coming up this Sunday, I rented a few movies so I could see more of what was being nominated.  I loved the documentary American Factory. I've seen Marriage Story (okay but grim); Toy Story 4 (always good); The Two Popes (boring); Joker (good but dark; never been much of a fan of Joaquin but everyone says he'll win and he probably deserves to win); The Irishman (good but too long); Once upon a time in Hollywood (good and always love looking at Brad); The Lighthouse (way too dark and hard to follow).  Ones I want to see: Harriet, Little Women, 1917, and Judy (although Rene Zellweger gets on my nerves)  ha ha

And that pretty much brings me up to date. Have not been happy with Mother Nature but then she ALWAYS gets on my nerves. Just glad the snow is gone. Rain I can deal with.  Things I saw on Facebook and two I took.

Answer appearing on Jeopardy tv show.      (question: what is a king tide)

my yard on the 2nd round of snowfall (Feb 3)
a glow in the dark 300-pc puzzle I completed (but I didn't notice much glowing)
a picture of my dad's dad, LewGene Blankenship, when he was a young teen. (Born in 1877) Hard to judge his age by the way he's sitting in this wagon that obviously doesn't fit him. I posted it on Facebook on the page called Random acts of genealogy Kindness hoping someone could clear up the white circle around his face. I did get a copy of tips on photo enhancement programs you can buy. And I might since my photo project will have me fixing up old pictures.
