Only two more nights to sleep in the house. Jen and I just loaded up her car and mine with a ton of boxes. I had a slew of egg boxes that are square, small, lightwt, with handles on each side. They hold a lot yet are easy to pick up and deal with. And you aren't tempted to make them too heavy. I carried about 18 of them to the utility porch and backed my car into the garage so I could hand her a box and neither of us would have to go up and down the three steps. Jenni, however, decided my plan was a nuisance. Our conversation went something like this:
Me: I went to all the trouble to get these boxes right here at the door so it would go fast and easy for us.
Jen: Just let me do it my way.
Me: No. I'm helping. You're in just as bad a shape as I am.
Jen: You're just in the way. Let me do it.
Me: No. Why do you think you always have to do it your way?
Jen: Well, you do!
Me: And I have to work real hard at it too. You argue with everything I want to do.
But we got it done. I had driven into Port Townsend at 8 this morning to fix some paperwork filled out incorrectly. Afterwards, I turned right around and headed home. Then I had to go mail a package, go the bank to fix some paperwork, talk to the mailman about a screwup in my address change, and stop to get a burger at Frugals. Cause I was starved. I marked several boxes with what was in them and struggled to get the tops closed. Damn cardboard!
While in PT I also stopped at their Goodwill to drop off a few things I couldn't give away. The PA Goodwill had a "closed for 15 minutes" sign up yesterday. Hated to give them anything but even though I took pictures and posted on the free website, all the people that said they wanted such and such a piece never showed up. Irritating. Goodwill declined my riser toilet seat (from when I had knee surgery) so I threw it in the trash. haha
We'll head to PT in the morning to sign papers and unload the two cars. Then come back to PA to pick up the Uhaul truck. My apt. # was changed to 221. She was waiting for the carpet layers to get there for 226 and was irked they weren't there yet. That was a red flag to me. I didn't want to show up and be told the apartment wasn't ready for me yet and I'd have to wait till another day. Too hard to put up with that. As it is, the apartments are exactly the same. My new one looks out on the garden in the common area and the other one looked out on the street. Also, my new one is wheelchair adapted so there's no cabinet door under the bathroom and kitchen sinks. I couldn't care less about that. I can always just take up a little curtain. Plus my new one is closer to the elevator.
The manager just called to tell me what my rent is. Good lord! Way more than I was expecting. Makes me wonder about all the hoops we jumped through to get the medical expenses submitted so the rent would be adjusted. But I'll make it work. Heaven knows there are ways I can cut down on my lifestyle spending. It'll be nice to have two meals a day that I'm not fixing or having to buy groceries for. And all my utilities and cable are included. Have to keep telling myself that until I get over the sticker shock of the higher rent. Course I've been on easy street for the last 11 years living here and paying rent that you would have paid in the good ole days. Thank you Mary and Andy!
So many details to attend to when you move. Way more than I experienced when I left Hadlock for Port Angeles and then Port Angeles for Sequim and then Sequim for Port Angeles again. Whew! This better be my last move. Well, before I go to the nursing home or cemetery that is. Yeah, it's always on my mind. That final resting place. Won't actually be a cemetery, however. I'm going to North Beach.
Hope I remember to take lots of pictures during this move. Will be a while before I get back online as the cable guy needs to come after I'm settled. More later.....
