Saturday in April

Did a few chores this morning. Load of laundry, trash out, recyclables dumped, dishes washed, muffins baked.  And then I had to cut off the bottoms as they burnt.  The brownies I made last night were all dried out so I dumped them. My oven gauge registered 475 or more when I set it for 400 this morning so I'm putting in a work order to see if they'll repair it. I'm betting she'll just tell me to set the oven lower. That's what she said when I met her in the hall a while ago and asked where the work orders were kept.

I'm not exactly why but they've started bringing sacks of food around on Saturday mornings for those residents who have meals in their rent package.  I know she wanted to stop the waiters from wasting their time bringing juices and drinks with the meals so this is her way to make up for that. I guess.  I was given a large can of V-8 (I told her every other week was good enough) and I was given a half gallon of milk.  Not sure if I'll use it since breakfasts are delivered but perhaps....  She also brought a couple apples, a couple pears, and three bnanans. I already have a sack of apples in the fridge that I brought from P.A. (and haven't used) so I gave my apples and pears to the neighbor lady who doesn't get food.  I've never been all that fond of fresh pears anyhow. They're okay but not something I love.
She was thrilled to get them all. I also gave her three muffins and the cut off ends so she could feed the birds.

I worked on my jigsaw a while but have to force myself to not sit there too long. I moved to the recliner to read my book and it didn't take long for me to realize it was nap time again.  I slept for an hour -- even though I went to bed at 9 last night and stayed there until 7 this morning. That is definitely an aging factor I think.  Naps are fine but I would just as soon be able to read longer.

Got a cute card from granddaughter Maddie telling me she's met a cute guy and enclosing $5 so I could go buy a Snickers bar. haha  Also got monopoly Safeway tickets from Mary but I think I'll pass them along to Jen. It's a lot of work opening them all.  My voter registration card also arrived.

I had a two-part VHS video playing while I did my puzzle. Lewis and Clark.  Quite interesting. I think I'm gonna stick Ghandi in next.  The loud door slams continue to wake me up when I nap or make me jump when I'm watching tv. I've decided they must be the lady below me who shuts her door when she leaves.  She's really nice so I won't say anything but it's going to take me a while to get used to it. I may never get used to it.

Sciatica had eased up on me a few days and I was feeling so much better but now it's back, making life miserable.  Left hand and fingers go numb too and I can feel the numbness down my left leg on the outside down to my feet.  I can deal with that but it's a real nuisance. What I hate is that I can't be on my feet for too long or my hip is killing me.  Again, I'm thankful for that walker. At least it allows me to go get my mail, do the laundry, and walk down the hall or around the apartment.  Just going to have to double up on the exercises and hope for the best.  I'm betting this ailment is going to be something I'm just going to have to learn to live with.

I was surfing through Amazon prime movies and putting several in my "favorites" file so I could just click on them in the evening.  They were movies that Prime thought I would like because of other stuff I had watched. I was surprised how many I saved and wondered why I hadn't seen them offered before. Well, last night I sat down to go through them again to decide on one. Much to my disgust, half of them were ones you had to RENT!  Damn it.  I got prime so it would all be free.  A lot of them were free but everything I was super keen on watching required my Visa card. And I wasn't willing to do that. My last Visa bill was $1.05 (the post office charged for changing my address). It won't be that little on the next invoice, though. I ordered two magazines and even though they won't start until September, the bill was over $40.  I won't be doing that again.

Saw that Aldrich's is closing soon.  It never was the same store after Aldrich's didn't own it. Here's a knickknack I've had for years.
Today marks the 15th anniversary of my cousin Claude passing away. Here's a couple photos and an entry from his high school yearbook in 1949.
