Last Week of January

Yesterday was kind of a downer for me. I had requested a hamburger for dinner because what was on the menu didn't appeal to me. I've been here long enough to realize the menu may sound delightful, but the food is not always as presented. I remember one day the turkey meat loaf ended up being stringy turkey strands mixed in so-so gravy.  Their lasagna pretty much amounts to noodles layed with cottage cheese that's been mixed with some other kind of cheese. No meat, no tomato sauce. No imagination. Last night's presentation was probably the worse I've ever seen.

A very small, very burnt hamburger patty that was as tough as leather. There was no sauce or mayo or anything on the bun, no tomato, and the cheese looked tough and old too. Leftover broccoli salad was on the side and it didn't appeal to me either. I tossed it and told the manager this morning that the meal was inedible. She apologized and said she'd talk to the kitchen crew. I half suspect that her son (who delivers the meals and preps in the kitchen) cooked that burger himself as the girl they've got in there usually does a halfway decent job.  Today I asked for another alternative (grilled chicken on a bun). I got a full plate of salad with hot chicken on top. I gave the salad to the neighbor as I had had that for lunch. Cut the chicken in half and will probably try to make a sandwich out of it tomorrow or maybe later tonight with a bowl of soup.  At any rate, I've only got to put up with this nonsense through February and then I'll be back to fixing my own meals.  And I must admit, I am looking forward to that.  I'll invest in a good toaster oven as the stove in here is a piece of shit!  I posted the picture on my Facebook page and chuckled at how outraged a couple dozen folks were. haha

I went to urgent care this morning. Decided my vaccination spot needed to be looked at. It's been two weeks and my arm is swollen and the shot area is yellow and terribly itchy.  The P.A. I saw gave me a prescription for itchness and gave me enough to use after my second dose on Feb. 6. She said what I'm experiencing is common and to be prepared as the second dose could leave me feeling really punk. Said to take ibuprofen before the shot and to prepare to kick back a few days and rest as I may feel feverish, fatigued, headachy, and just plain icky!  Oh Yay!  I am thankful, though, after seeing all the trouble others are having trying to get a shot that mine came to me here at the apartment house.  Having the news on can sure send you into depression.  Seems like everyday there's another variant showing up.  I try to have the news on a little bit but I end up turning it off eventually because I'm sick and tired of hearing nothing but woe.

I finished a cross stitch design last night. Not sure what I'll do with it. Maybe make a small wall hanging with quilt pieces around it.

My friend, Ann, sent me a cross stitch design of hedge hogs so I'll start on that tonight.
I'm reading a memoir right now called 'From Our House.' About a guy and his love/hate relationship with his father growing up.
I'll probably finish the British police show I've been watching on the Acorn channel tonight. I wonder if there will be more seasons after the 4th one I'm into now. It's called 19-1 and is really good.

I moved my smaller recliner back into my bedroom yesterday. My daytime naps have become something I really need more often than not and I don't like going to bed to sleep and prefer the comfort of a recliner. I tried it before and it didn't suit me but this time I rearranged things, making the space more usuable and I'm hoping it will do the trick.  It's too hard to sleep in the living room because I can't depend on the hallway being quiet. Especially when the neighbor is hard of hearing and has his music or tv on loud with his door wide open.  Just have to adapt to apartment living.

I had some good mail today. My half sister in PA wrote me a letter, Amazon sent me a bill saying I had a credit and only owed $2.42 and a friend in Sedro Wooley sent me a check for $25 just to thank me for things I post online. What a shockaroo!  And it really cheered me up.

I picked up three prescriptions at the pharmacy but didn't realize until I got home that the lids were the hard to open kind. All three of them. And you couldn't turn them upside down for easy open like last months'.  I struggled with each of them and then transferred to older bottles. I don't need that aggravation right now.

My granddaughter, Catie, is coming this Saturday and I'll have a large box of old jewelry and beads to give her. A neighbor was cleaning out. I think she'll be surprised at a lot of it.  Good stuff.  I saw this picture on FB and will show it to her hoping she can make something like it.

I've got my sewing machine set up here in the living room and am trying to do a little quilt square sewing daily. Not today, though. Just too worn out from not sleeping well last night.  Well, I guess I'll heat up a bowl of soup now.  I keep watching the weather wondering if we're going to get snow this month.

And here's a picture of the hospital I was born in being demolished in 1965.
