Still Learning

Had two errands to run today so I got them done early. Safeway and bank. I couldn't really get motivated to do much else the rest of the day.  Did finish the edges of my latest jigsaw and of course, took a nap. Oh, and I rearranged my book shelf and knickknack shelf. Yeah, living life wild!

Mary had given me some banana chocolate chip cookie dough so I decided it was time I tried out my new oven. Had to use the little pans but they seemed to cook faster. Too fast for me apparently as they kind of looked burnt each time I took a pan out. They weren't though. Think it was just the chocolate chips.

For dinner I wanted to make some Jiffy muffins. Had some leftover corn to stir in.  I took them out (looked fine to me) but discovered the insides were gooey so back to the oven we went. I made the mistake of playing bingo online while they were cooking (even though I'm sitting right next to the oven) I managed to brown them a tad too much.
Even though they look pathetic, they were still okay to eat.

After that I stuck in this pork short rib I had in the freezer. Spread a little bbq sauce on it too. I thought it was done so I took them out and cut them in half. Discovered they were a little pink and I know you need to really cook pork so I cut them in thirds and returned to the oven.  I thought I was keeping a close enough eye on them but pretty soon, the damn smoke alarm starts shrilling.

I ran to get a fan out of the closet (knocked over my wig and head in the process) and hurriedly set it up after opening all the windows. I didn't know if a smoke alarm alerted the fire dept and I thought "Oh great! First one to have the fire dept. show up."
I remember Linda P and I used to listen to our scanners 'cause her mom and my folks lived here and we always worried the aid call or fire call was our parents.  It never was.

Well, it finally turned off and Trish walked by and I asked her if a person gets in trouble for setting off their smoke alarm. She laughed and said, "No, you just get all these cute fireman showing up at your apartment. It's delightful."  She told me the next time it happens to open my windows and close my bedroom door. The "main" alarm is in there and if it gets in the act, then the fire department comes.
I think I'm going to keep my fan out of the closet for a while, just for an added measure.

At any rate, my rib, muffins, and carrot sticks were all yummy. I figure it's going to take me a while to get back in the groove of cooking again since I haven't done it for a year.  'Course I never was that good a cook to start with and I seem to be getting worse the older I get.  Same goes for sleeping, walking, remembering stuff, and getting out of a chair.

Sure am sick to death of hearing the same stories over and over again on the news about NY Gov Cuomo making passes at young girls. Yes, shame on him but really..... how come we didn't stay on the stories about all Trump's misbehavior?  And there was plenty to work with.  It's all politics and I'm pretty much muting the tv anytime I'm hearing the exact same story I heard yesterday. I'm not interested so move on!  I'm about ready to quit watching the ABC news with David Muir too. The stories they choose to report on (usually NY stuff)  and then they don't really report on it at all. Tonight was a van who hit a restaurant in Manhattan.  Like who cares?! Most of the show is one drug commercial after another. I mute them all and my tv is muted for a lot of the half hour program. I've noticed they're trying to get us to watch more by showing families doing things together. Of course no one looks frail or sick. And I'm a little weary of hearing about the Royals too. Normally, I like to see their goings on but when they get to the point where they're just trying to get better ratings for Oprah, well enough already!

I just discovered a fun series on Amazon Prime called Good Girls. It's apparently been around for a while but this is the first I've come across it. It's making me laugh out loud and I don't do that a lot these days.

It's going to be a quiet weekend for me. Jigsaw puzzle, sewing, reading, tv. Next weekend will be more fun. And here's a picture from the past of Jake's first Easter egg hunt. And another when he was a little older.
