My back gave me a LOT of grief today. Makes me wonder if those three visits to Silverdale and Poulsbo for fancy wancy back injections did any good. I thought things were better 'cause I was able to be up and on my feet doing various things without having to go sit down every few minutes. That wasn't the case today but I'll wait and see how it goes. I was doing quilt work that ALWAYS killed my back so I'm hoping that was the case this afternoon.
I got three quilts going now and I have the batting and the backing measured and fixed up for each one. That step alone is a killer! I used the long table downstairs for the larger quilt (it's only a twin) but I was able to use my own table for the other two. They're bigger than crib size or lap quilts but smaller than twin size. I used pieces of batting I had to sew together for one of them and cut up two flannel sheets for the other two battings. Am happy I have so much material onhand for the backings.
It was an afternoon of aggravation at the machine. Everything I touched, I dropped on the floor. Sometimes twice! Then I had to take the machine apart to vacuum out the dust and lint as it had been a while and things bog down if I don't stay on top of the lint buildup. It's always a slow process cleaning as I have to make sure I remember what screw goes where and I have to attach my little sewing machine vacuum pieces to my big vacuum so it will get down in the tiny places. Before I did all that, however, I still needed to wind thread onto 11 bobbins. Another time consuming chore.
Here's two of the three in process now.
I've got a meat loaf in the oven and potatoes ready to start boiling for mashed potatoes. That dish will probably give me three dinners and a couple of sandwiches. Yum!
Yesterday morning I finished this three specimen project for the lab at the hospital. It was gross and I hated doing it 'cause it required special diet and special steps. And you had to keep it in the fridge! Well, I finally got it done and took it over. This morning I get a call from the lab wanting to know who gave me the directions I followed. I told her "the lab". Well, (and she did apologize) I was given the wrong directions so I had to go get another gallon jug only this time they just wanted one specimen and no keeping it in the fridge. They wanted me to bring it right in. Unless it was midnight. haha
Well, tell me I HAVE to poop on command and it just ain't happening! She was very specific on what she needed but I managed to get what I felt was GOOD ENOUGH! Went to the lab again (both times in the rain) and submitted if after having to go through all that B.S. of having my temperature taken, being told to put on a fresh mask, and then answering questions about "have I been exposed?" Like how the hell would I know that! And of course I had to put a sticker on my coat -- just to walk across the waiting room to go into the lab. Annoyed the hell out of me!
Ran a few cookie delivery errands yesterday. Stopped by cousins Lee & Bill Arey. Lee helped himself to a cookie right away. Elaine told me he'll be going into hospice next week. Bill, Teresa, and I spent our visit discussing body parts that hurt. haha He's gonna' be 80 next week.
Next Wednesday I'm going to The Point Casino in Kingston with Janie and her caregiver. They have an $8 bingo game in the afternoon and I haven't been to that casino in ages. Or maybe I never have. Can't remember.
Jenni had to cancel her Xmas eve party (guests were out of town or not well) so I'm going up there early Xmas morning to have breakfast with them. I'll visit a while and then stop in Sequim on the way home to visit with Mary Norton. I "might" even stop at 7 Cedars to put $20 in the machines but I'll wait and see how I feel.
Well, I guess that's enough Christmas cheer for this blog. I'll try to be nicer in the next one. But don't hold your breath.
