Saturday Activities

It's 10 a.m. on a gray Saturday morning. I just finished cleaning up the kitchen. Some nights I just don't feel the need to wash dinner dishes so I let them go until morning. Especially if I've had a dinner that didn't amount to much. Yesterday was one of those. I had boiled a small piece of chicken and grated it up for burritos. I've never been very good at using tortillas and I'm going to have to study up on it more as I love any meal fixed with tortillas. All I had was half a pkg of small tortillas. Not even big enough to roll really. Probably would have been better had a fried a couple and threw in the ingredients like a taco but no, I was lazy and just warmed them in the microwave. I knew I didn't have a heck of a lot of ingredients to add but I thought I could still make them tasty. Nope. They were blah. I used small cherry tomatoes, some shredded cheese and the chicken. I used Cesar salad dressing spread on first.  I guess I could have used some beans but since the tortillas were already small, it wouldn't have worked. I ate three of them and topped it off with a bowl of apple cobbler with cool whip. That made everything better.

The free food I get once a month and once a week from another outfit usually has fresh fruit in the mix. And usually, it's a bag of apples. Which means I have to cook them up as they're already getting to that point. I wasn't in the mood to mess with homemade pie crust so I opted for cobbler.By the time I had peeled a big ole bag and sliced up the apples, I realized I had enough for an large oblong dish, not the 9" square pan I originally got out and made the topping for. Rather than make more topping, I just dribbled it over the oblong dish and hoped for the best.  It looked okay but not that great. Too many apples. But everything is better with Cool Whip so all was not lost. I shared with three neighbors who took their bowls thankfully.

Good Lord! Already got a damn spam caller. Only good thing about them is that I learned how to block the call so they can't use my number again. Of course they have a ton of lines or other phones as the calls continue but of all the things that piss me off these days (and there are plenty!) I suppose I can put up with nuisance phone rings.

I'm meeting Barbara Shaw at noon for lunch. We're going to the Roadhouse for a burger. I'll order a side of salad, put it in a go-away box and bring it home for a dinner later. Last time I did this, I had enough salad for two meals. Right now I have a big old ham hock in my crock pot. Hadn't used my crock in ages so I really had to dig to get it out of the kitchen cabinet buried down low. I wanted to cut the bone in half so I could use it for two meals but I didn't have a knife strong enough. That's okay, though. I can always just cook it up and put half the meat in a baggie for the freezer. Every now and again I get an urge for green pea soup so I bought some dried peas, a couple of celery stalks and intend to make myself my favorite soup in the whole world.  I love tomato and clam chowder too but I think pea is my favorite. Well, not, maybe clam chowder is first and pea is second.

Barb and I talked about whether or not to hit the casino or the Roadhouse. Both of us were not really caring one way or the other. I opted to pass on the casino because I still had bad memories of my last stop where I stayed 15 minutes and lost $20. Of course I seldom ever win so it wasn't a big surprise. Since I have the crock pot plugged in, I think it's just as well I stay in the county today.

I've got a twin size quilt all pinned and ready to quilt on my machine. I hope it goes well. Usually my machine quilting ends up givine me big ole puckers but we'll see. I have high expectations today might be the day my quilt comes out looking okay. Haven't decided who to gift it to yet.  There are several I'd like to make quilts for but I can't afford the postage.

I had painted a bunch of rocks I collected white in preparation for trying to make more designs but I got distracted and stopped after make a few cactus rocks. At least they're suppose to look like cactus. They're kind of lame. Probably could be staged better like in small pots with dirt. Maybe I'll do that sometime. anyhow, I put the rest of the rocks away for another day.

I was working on a jigsaw puzzle and pretty much enjoying it (500 pcs) but I got it 3/4 done and lost interest. Not sure what my problem is. I'll set up a 1000-pc next time. Although knowing me, I'll end up putting it away too. Meanwhile, my latest cross stitch book arrived from Amazon and I'm working on that hobby now. Only at night while I watch tv. This book has 50 projects in it. They're all mini designs like 2x3" and the directions are color coded which makes it even easier to do. The designs are of fine art like the Mona Lisa and such. I'm starting with American Gothic of the man and wife with the pitchfork.

I'm kind of tired and listless this morning. I woke up at 2 with horrible dry mouth and a headache. I think I'll set up my humidifier tonight and try to sleep with two pilllows. Anyhow, I came out to my recliner as I can usually drop off to sleep for a few more hours. Not last night though. One hour later I was still trying to sleep so I got up and played solitaire online, did the crossword and wordle, and had some jello with Cool Whip. Back to the chair I went around 3:30 and I slept until 8:30 this morning.
Hopefully, my body will wake up and get with the program.

Besides the quilt I intend to spend at least an hour on, I want to get going on cleaning up my laptop files. I've been putting it off although I really like doing stuff like that. I'm just afraid I'm going to mess things up even more than I already have.  Got an email from the outfit I sent my obit book to and they said it's on the way. Just keeping my fingers crossed that the directions they gave me for margins and such was good enough to make the book ready to sell. I'm probably only going to order 60 copies. I have 40 orders now but interest will be limited I'm sure.

Yesterday I decided to take the quilt off my recliner along with the two pillows I had to make the seat higher as I wanted to test out if I could get out of the chair with it being a tad lower. It does look a lot nicer in here with a chair that isn't blanket covered and so far I'm managing to scoot my butt back out of it.  Can you tell I have little to yak about today?  haha

Hmmmm....it just occurred to me that I didn't do my follow-up doctor visit online Jan. 25th. They were supposed to email me to set it up and didn't. Oh well, all I would relate is that my hip still hurts and I guess that's the way it's going to be. I've decided I may have to start remembering to take my cane or walking stick with me when I leave the building. I use my walker to go from my apt to the front door downstairs (love having my walker 'cause it allows me to move right along swiftly and with no pain) but when I have to walk the short distance to my car, it about kills me!  I limp and struggle to get to that car seat and I'm suspecting having a walking stick would help me.  I think about it every now and then but always end up telling myself "oh, quit being such a baby; it's just a few steps" and then when I get down there and am hurting I kick myself for not using my head.

Well,  I think I'll go pull my wig down from the closet shelf so Barb won't have to look at my ugly hair while we eat. I've started to have dreams about having a lot of hair so I know it's on my mind even subconsciously. Another repeat dream is how I'm moving. I'm either on a bike and maneuvering quite well (sometimes long distance from PA to PT) and I'm also walking and half running a lot. All with no pain and no effort. Sometimes I like dreams.

Think I'll take my camera to lunch today. Might run into somebody I can take a picture of. Have a good weekend. Oh, and I didn't go back and proof read this so sorry for any typos. And I just noticed that when I left my blog to go retrieve a picture to post, when I came back, the font settings had reverted to normal instead of medium like I had changed them. Irks me that I have to deal with annoyances like that!
