Sitting here having my second cup of coffee. Dishes are waiting for me in the sink but they can wait. Thankfully, my dish washing is usually very minimal.
Everytime I start typing I get one sentence written and remember that I like a larger font. Yesterday I got out a couple dozen pictures of PT and pasted them onto post card size paper.Today, I'm going to start addressing them. Thought I might send to a few classmates this time too.
Mary is getting ready to go to the dentist and later this afternoon, she has a 1 pm appt with the doctor. I went to the dentist a couple days ago. Mary made me drive although she was with me in the car. It is getting easier although if I'm going somewhere new by myself, I absolutely cannot do it without the maps app on my phone. When I made the dentist appt, I was having a slight ache in a bottom gum. Of course it went away a couple days later. I wanted to cancel the appt but Mary said: NO. You need to establish yourself with a dentist anyway.
So I went. He hit a couple of teeth with his tool and when nothing hurt anywhere I told him I felt dumb even coming in. Mary had said in the waiting room that I should get my teeth cleaned. Since I haven't been to a dentist in years, I knew I was overdue but I still didn't want to do it. I went to a cleaner once and she really hurt my mouth. Anyhow, the dentist's asst quoted me $416 for exam, xrays and cleaning. I decided I could wait. Mary was not pleased with me when I told her in the car later. Started lecturing me about how I've given up and I don't take care of myself mentally, physically, or some other way I can't remember. Pissed me off but she does like to lecture and I'm learning to let it go in one ear and out the other. She has insurance. I don't. But even though I have the money and could pay, I didn't feel the need. Something about going on 80 and spending big bucks on teeth just doesn't sit well with me. If my teeth start to hurt, I will make another appt but until then, I intend to take it one day at a time. One nice thing....the dentist didn't charge me for the appt that day.
Mary and Andy plan on hitting the county fair on Aug. 9th. I'm excited to go. She's going to get a free wheelchair at the gate so I can enjoy myself more. I have discovered that if I stick four cotton balls in my sock underneath my toes, I can walk much easier. I've been looking to see if there's something I can buy but all I've found are pads for the forefoot. I already have those and they didnt' help. Getting the toes cushione, however, really made a difference for me.
I've made three appts at the senior center for various activities. I'm pretty sure I can drive there on my own as Mary showed me a way to go straight on this one road near her house and I don't have to go on highways or freeways. That suits me fine. The activities are all in August. One is a mystery book club, another is crafts and the last is some kind of art club. You don't have to supply your own tools and you don't have to be talented in art. We'll see how that goes. I'm also going to check out cribbage and pinocle games. A woman told me about another outfit for the newcomers club and I'm going to look into that.
I've set up maybe three jigsaw puzzles and even though I finished one half way, I ended up losing interest and putting them away. Since I have my dvd working now, I'm enjoying watching the Sopranos again. Hard to believe that it came out 24 years ago!
I might drive down to Walmart today as I need a few items. Still thinking about it. It's an easy place to get to but I'm not all the way comfortable with driving. All the more reason to go, I suppose, as I need to get over that. Am really wanting to visit the library again too so I may work on that.
Mary and Andy head for NY around Aug. 13th or so and it will be just me and Poppy here for a week. My little hummingbird is coming around some in the morning but I'm hoping for more birds coming more frequently.Well, that's about all I can think of right now. Guess I'll do the dishes.
